Commending the Virginia State University women's soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Virginia State University women's soccer team won the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division I national championship on November 16, 2025, in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia State University Trojans defeated the Shaw University Bears by a score of 1–0 to secure the program's first national title in its first year of membership in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association; and
WHEREAS, the lone goal in the Virginia State Trojans' triumph came from AJ Clarke, who scored her third goal of the season when she placed a corner kick from Skye Dixon in the back of the net in the 38th minute of play; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia State Trojans mounted a strong defense to maintain the shutout, led by goalkeeper Tianna Roberts, who had eight of her 10 saves in the second half; and
WHEREAS, several Virginia State Trojans were recognized for their exceptional performances during the tournament, including Morgan Parris, Carra Fitzgerald, Alana Martin, and Loryn Sturgis, who were named to the all-tournament team, and Skye Dixon, who was named tournament most valuable player; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia State Trojans' championship victory was an extraordinary finish for a program that was established only three years prior; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Virginia State Trojans is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes; the leadership and guidance of their coaches, Anthony Andrews, Frasier Brickhouse III, and Chip Amen; and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Virginia State University community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Virginia State University women's soccer team hereby be commended for winning the 2025 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division I national championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anthony Andrews, head coach of the Virginia State University women's soccer team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
