1A RESOLUTION designating February 23 to February 27, 2026, as Public Schools
2 Week in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
3WHEREAS, public education is a significant institution in a 21st century
4 democracy; and
5WHEREAS, public schools educate students about the values and beliefs that hold
6 the individuals of the United States together as a nation; and
7WHEREAS, public schools prepare the young men and women of the United States
8 to contribute to the society, economy, and citizenry of the country; and
9WHEREAS, 87 percent of children in the United States attend public schools; and
10WHEREAS, federal, state, and local lawmakers should prioritize support for
11 strengthening the public schools of the United States and empower superintendents,
12 principals, and other school leaders to implement, manage, and lead school districts and
13 schools in partnership with educators, parents, and other local education stakeholders. In
14 addition, legislators should support services and programs that are critical to helping
15 students engage in learning, including counseling, extracurricular activities, and mental
16 health support; and
17WHEREAS, Congress should support efforts to advance equal opportunity and
18 excellence in public education, efforts to implement evidence-based practices in public
19 education, and continuous improvements to public education; and
20WHEREAS, public schools should foster inclusive, safe, and high-quality
21 environments in which children can learn to think critically, problem solve, and build
22 relationships; and
23WHEREAS, public schools should provide environments in which all students have
24 the opportunity to succeed in their most formative early years of life, regardless of who a
25 student is or where a student lives; and
26WHEREAS, every child should attend a school that offers a high-quality
27 educational experience that prepares them to reach their full potential; and

1WHEREAS, federal funding, in addition to state and local funds, allows students to
2 access inviting classrooms, well-prepared educators, and services to support their health
3 and well-being, including nutrition and afterschool programs; and
4WHEREAS, teachers, paraprofessionals, and principals should provide students
5 with a well-rounded education and strive to create joy in learning; and
6WHEREAS,  superintendents,   principals,   other   school   leaders,   teachers,
7 paraprofessionals, and parents make public schools vital components of communities and
8 work to improve educational outcomes for children across the country;
9NOW, THEREFORE,
10 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
11 Kentucky:
12Section 1. The Senate hereby designates February 23 to February 27, 2026, as
13 Public Schools Week in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
14Section 2.  The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this
15 Resolution to Senator Brandon Storm.
