sr117/introduced.txtUNOFFICIAL COPY 26 RS BR 23281A RESOLUTION designating February 23 to February 27, 2026, as Public Schools2 Week in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.3WHEREAS, public education is a significant institution in a 21st century4 democracy; and5WHEREAS, public schools educate students about the values and beliefs that hold6 the individuals of the United States together as a nation; and7WHEREAS, public schools prepare the young men and women of the United States8 to contribute to the society, economy, and citizenry of the country; and9WHEREAS, 87 percent of children in the United States attend public schools; and10WHEREAS, federal, state, and local lawmakers should prioritize support for11 strengthening the public schools of the United States and empower superintendents,12 principals, and other school leaders to implement, manage, and lead school districts and13 schools in partnership with educators, parents, and other local education stakeholders. In14 addition, legislators should support services and programs that are critical to helping15 students engage in learning, including counseling, extracurricular activities, and mental16 health support; and17WHEREAS, Congress should support efforts to advance equal opportunity and18 excellence in public education, efforts to implement evidence-based practices in public19 education, and continuous improvements to public education; and20WHEREAS, public schools should foster inclusive, safe, and high-quality21 environments in which children can learn to think critically, problem solve, and build22 relationships; and23WHEREAS, public schools should provide environments in which all students have24 the opportunity to succeed in their most formative early years of life, regardless of who a25 student is or where a student lives; and26WHEREAS, every child should attend a school that offers a high-quality27 educational experience that prepares them to reach their full potential; andPage 1 of 2XXXX 2/25/2026 11:42 AM JacketedUNOFFICIAL COPY 26 RS BR 23281WHEREAS, federal funding, in addition to state and local funds, allows students to2 access inviting classrooms, well-prepared educators, and services to support their health3 and well-being, including nutrition and afterschool programs; and4WHEREAS, teachers, paraprofessionals, and principals should provide students5 with a well-rounded education and strive to create joy in learning; and6WHEREAS, superintendents, principals, other school leaders, teachers,7 paraprofessionals, and parents make public schools vital components of communities and8 work to improve educational outcomes for children across the country;9NOW, THEREFORE,10 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of11 Kentucky:12Section 1.
