A RESOLUTION recognizing May 17 to 23, 2026, as Public Works Week in the
Commonwealth of Kentucky.
WHEREAS, public works professionals build, repair, and maintain the
infrastructure, facilities, and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and
resilient communities and to public health, high quality of life, and well-being of the
people of Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, infrastructure, facilities, and services of this kind could not be
provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, who are engineers,
managers, and employees at all levels of government and the private sector; and
WHEREAS, public works professionals are responsible for rebuilding, improving,
and protecting our nation's transportation, water supply, water treatment and solid waste
systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential for the optimal
wellness of the citizens of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for the citizens, civic leaders, and children in
the Commonwealth to gain knowledge of and maintain an ongoing interest in the
importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities;
and
WHEREAS, the year 2026 marks the 66th annual National Public Works Week
sponsored by the American Public Works Association; and
WHEREAS, in honor and recognition of the public works professionals across the
Commonwealth, the members of the Senate urge all citizens to join together in activities,
events, and ceremonies designated to pay tribute to the public works professionals,
engineers, managers, and employees, and to recognize the substantial contributions they
make to protect the health, safety, and quality of life for all;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the Senate hereby designate the week of May 17 to
23, 2026, as National Public Works Week, to celebrate and recognize the hard work and
dedication of the public works professionals across the Commonwealth.
Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this
Resolution to Senator Steve Rawlings.
