1A RESOLUTION congratulating The Goat Project at Vaughn's Branch/Oxford
2 Circle on winning the Environmental Commission of Lexington-Fayette Urban County
3 Government's Outstanding Project in Sustainability Award.
4WHEREAS, each spring, the communities of Vaughn's Branch and Oxford Circle
5 in Lexington, come together to remove trash and debris from the area to prepare for a
6 herd of goats to inhabit the area; and
7WHEREAS, Paula Singer and David Neville, who provide the goats for The Goat
8 Project, display sustainability in action, a commitment to urban agriculture and
9 agritourism that has resulted in a rejuvenated neighborhood space; and
10WHEREAS, for many years, the Vaughn's Branch/Oxford Circle neighborhood was
11 overgrown, neglected, and littered with trash but thanks to the community's welcome of
12 The Goat Project, the neighborhood is now a well-kept and valued recreational space for
13 all to enjoy; and
14WHEREAS, The Goat Project was recognized as an Outstanding Project in
15 Sustainability at the Environmental Commission of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County
16 Government's 2025 Environmental Awards Breakfast on June 25, 2025. Projects
17 recognized in this award category demonstrate integration of the three pillars of
18 sustainability: environmental benefit, social responsibility, and economic viability; and
19WHEREAS, The Goat Project's success within the Vaughn's Branch/Oxford Circle
20 neighborhood is proof of the positive change that urban agriculture and community
21 action, working together, can have on both the environment and the culture of a
22 community;
23NOW, THEREFORE,
24 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
25 Kentucky:
26Section 1.      The members of the Senate join Senator Reginald Thomas in
27 honoring The Goat Project for being awarded the Environmental Commission of the
