1A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and memory of the life and
2 sacrifice of Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, who paid the ultimate price in service to
3 our nation.
4WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, 26, of Glendale, Kentucky, was
5 stationed in Saudi Arabia at the Prince Sultan Air Base in support of Operation Epic Fury
6 when it was attacked by Iranian drones and missiles on March 1, 2026. He was gravely
7 injured and succumbed to his injuries on March 8; and
8WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington enlisted in the United States
9 Army in 2017 as a unit supply specialist assigned to the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space
10 Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado; and
11WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington was a decorated member of the
12 United States Army's elite 1st Space Brigade involving crucial air defense systems. The
13 United States Army Space Brigade, stationed across six countries around the world, aids
14 in the military's ability in missile warning, GPS tracking, and long-haul satellite
15 communications to troops; and
16WHEREAS, commanding general Lieutenant General Sean Gainey said, "The U.S.
17 Army Space and Missile Defense Command is deeply saddened by the loss of Sergeant
18 Pennington. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for the country he loved. That makes him
19 nothing less than a hero, and he will always be remembered that way."; and
20WHEREAS, 1st Space Brigade commander Colonel Michael Dyer described Staff
21 Sergeant Pennington as "a dedicated and experienced" officer, who "led with strength,
22 professionalism, and sense of duty." Sergeant Benjamin Pennington was posthumously
23 promoted to staff sergeant; and
24WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington paid the ultimate price in service
25 to our nation and will be greatly missed by family and friends;
26NOW, THEREFORE,
27 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of

2Section 1.        The Senate hereby honors and remembers the life and sacrifice of
3 Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington, who paid the ultimate price in service to our nation.
4Section 2.        When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving
5 memory of Staff Sergeant Benjamin Pennington.
6Section 3.  The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this
7 Resolution to Senator Matthew Deneen for presentation to the family.
