1     WHEREAS, Rebecca Jae Saldaña was appointed to the Washington
2 state Senate in 2016, won a special election in 2017, and was
3 subsequently reelected twice; and
4     WHEREAS,   Senator  Saldaña   represents   the  37th   Legislative
5 District, a vibrant and diverse community including parts of South
6 Seattle, Renton, Madrona, the Central District, Leschi, Beacon Hill,
7 Columbia City, Rainier Valley, and Bryn Mawr-Skyway; and
8     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has demonstrated tireless dedication to
9 advocating for frontline communities disproportionately affected by
10 environmental and social injustices; and
11     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has become a leading voice for workers,
12 immigrants, women, and communities of color, ensuring policymaking
13 reflects the lived experiences of those most affected; and
14     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña serves as chair of the Senate Labor and
15 Commerce Committee, and has used this role to stand up for workers
16 throughout Washington state, strengthen economic fairness, and create
17 opportunity for working families; and
18     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has been an active member of the Senate
19 Members of Color Caucus and the Latino Democratic Caucus, helping
20 ensure that equity and accountability remain central to legislative
21 processes; and
22     WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure, Senator Saldaña has sponsored and
23 championed landmark legislation transforming the lives of Washington

1 residents, including the Washington Voting Rights Act, which
2 expanded democratic access and representation for historically
3 marginalized communities; and
4     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña was the prime sponsor of the
5 Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act, the first statewide law
6 addressing disproportionate environmental hazards faced by
7 Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, establishing
8 environmental justice as a guiding principle across state
9 government; and
10     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña championed the Domestic Workers'
11 Bill of Rights, guaranteeing minimum wage, overtime, rest
12 breaks,   written    contracts,   and  antidiscrimination   and
13 antiretaliation protections for domestic workers long excluded
14 from basic labor protections; and
15     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña advanced the Adult Entertainment
16 Workers' Rights Act, establishing critical safety standards,
17 fair contracting practices, and workplace protections for adult
18 industry workers; and
19     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has transformed policymaking by
20 bringing impacted communities directly into the legislative
21 process, ensuring voices from all walks of life are heard,
22 respected, and empowered to help shape Washington's future; and
23     WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has consistently encouraged her
24 staff, supported fellow legislators, and empowered community
25 leaders, remaining an unapologetic champion for women, Latinas
26 and Latinos, immigrants, workers, and all who have historically
27 been denied a seat at the table;
28     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state
29 Senate commend and honor Rebecca Saldaña for her extraordinary
30 service to the people of the 37th Legislative District and the
31 state of Washington; and
32     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be transmitted
33 by the Secretary of the Senate to Senator Rebecca Saldaña with
34 the Senate's deepest gratitude, respect, and appreciation for
35 her decade of exemplary service.
