Wilson, Trudeau, Cleveland, Nobles, Dhingra, Fortunato,Salomon, Alvarado, MacEwen, Robinson, Lovelett, Wagoner, Saldaña, Lovick, Slatter,Orwall, Shewmake, and Wellman1 WHEREAS, Steven Edward Conway was first elected to the Washington2 State House of Representatives in 1993, and was reelected eight3 times. He was elected to the Washington State Senate in 2010, and was4 reelected three times; and5 WHEREAS, For 34 years, Senator Conway has represented the 29th6 legislative district, which includes the cities of Tacoma, Midland,7 Parkland, and Spanaway, and is home to many working families; and8 WHEREAS, Senator Conway has served on labor committees in the9 House or Senate for the entire duration of his legislative career,10 and served as Chair of the committee for many years in the House; and11 WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Senator Conway has been a12 steadfast advocate for working families and a leading champion of13 collective bargaining rights, recognizing the fundamental importance14 of workers' ability to organize and negotiate for fair wages,15 benefits, and working conditions; and16 WHEREAS, Senator Conway's influence and input can be found in17 every major labor policy over the last three decades. He has shaped18 and strengthened collective bargaining rights, unemployment19 insurance, apprenticeship programs, Paid Family and Medical Leave,20 and our state's pension system; and21 WHEREAS, Senator Conway has also been intimately involved in the22 state's pension policy. He is the longest serving member of thep. 1 87031 Select Committee on Pension Policy, a committee that has made2 Washington's pension system one of the best funded in the3 nation; and4 WHEREAS, Senator Conway has also delivered funding for5 countless local projects during his career. His work helped6 expand the University of Washington Tacoma and build the LeMay7 Car Museum, as well as establish the Harry Bridges Center for8 Labor Studies at the University of Washington and, most9 recently, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center in Tacoma; and10 WHEREAS, Senator Conway is also passionate about supporting11 park spaces, and was instrumental in securing funding for the12 Star Center in South Tacoma, the Eastside Community Center in13 the Eastside neighborhood, and Cross Park in the Frederickson14 area; and15 WHEREAS, Senator Conway was elected by the Senate to the16 position of President Pro Tempore on January 13, 2025, and17 presided over the Senate with grace when called upon to do so;18 and19 WHEREAS, The Washington State Legislature will look back at20 Senator Conway's career as an example of a life dedicated to21 public service and the advancement of worker protections and22 rights;23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate of the state24 of Washington commend and honor Steve Conway for his25 extraordinary service to the people of the 29th Legislative26 District and the State of Washington; and27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be transmitted28 by the Secretary of the Senate to Senator Steve Conway with the29 Senate's most sincere thanks and appreciation for his years of30 exemplary service in the Legislature.31 I, Sarah Bannister, Secretary of the Senate,32 do hereby certify that this is a true and33 correct copy of Senate Resolution 8703,34 adopted by the Senate35 March 11, 2026p. 2 87031 SARAH BANNISTER2 Secretary of the Senatep. 3 8703
