A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF
JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY TIGER MASCOT DAVID "WAVEE DAVE" CHAMBERS AND
HIS COMMITMENT TO HIS ALMA MATER AND COMMUNITY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 75TH
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF KAPPA ALPHA PSI FRATERNITY ON MARCH 17, 2026.
���� WHEREAS, David "Wavee
Dave" Chambers, a 1988 graduate of Jackson State University, embodied
Tiger Pride for over two decades as the university's celebrated mascot,
captivating fans with spirited performances, unicycle antics, and enthusiastic
leadership that energized generations of students, alumni, and supporters; and
���� WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers'
creative and dynamic presence on the field helped build a culture of spirit and
excellence at Jackson State University, inspiring the formation of the
"Baby Tigers" and motivating young performers to pursue both academic
success and passionate representation of "Thee Tiger Legacy"; and
���� WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers
graciously continued to bring joy and excitement to fans through his mascot
role for more than 20 years, even as health challenges emerged, demonstrating
unwavering commitment to his alma mater and the broader Jackson community; and
���� WHEREAS, David "Wavee
Dave" Chambers' life and legacy stand as enduring symbols of spirit,
service, and inspiration, exemplifying the values of leadership, perseverance,
and community engagement that reflect the best traditions of Jackson State
University and the State of Mississippi; and
���� WHEREAS, the 75th
Anniversary of the Delta Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.,
chartered at Jackson State University, presents an appropriate occasion to
honor individuals whose contributions have enriched the cultural, educational,
and civic fabric of Mississippi:
���� NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby honor and recognize the
famous Tiger Mascot David "Wavee Dave" Chambers for his significant
contributions to the heritage and spirit of Jackson State University and the
State of Mississippi.
���� BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That
March 17, 2026, is designated as "Wavee Dave Day" in the State of
Mississippi in tribute to his enduring legacy, and that citizens are encouraged
to observe this day with appreciation for his influence on generations of Tiger
fans and Mississippians.
���� BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That
this resolution be presented to members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., on
Kappa Day at the State Capitol honoring the legacy of notable members, and made
available to the Capitol Press Corps.
