Truman Scholar, one of thenation's most prestigious honors for students committed to public service; and���� WHEREAS, a graduate ofMadison Central High School, Yasmine's family hails from Indianola, Mississippi,in the heart of the Delta, a heritage that inspires her work to preserve andshare Mississippi's stories.� She is a senior at the University of Mississippi,studying International Studies, Chinese, and Global Security Studies, and is amember of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and a Stamps Scholar;and���� WHEREAS, in 2019, shefounded Yasmine's Warehouse, a multimedia platform that uses storytelling toexplore how identity and environment shape our lives.� Through the platform,she highlights the voices of Mississippians and people across the globe,connecting local experiences to broader social contexts and policy; and���� WHEREAS, her documentary, TheMound Bayou Memoirs, and forthcoming podcast examine the legacy of Mound Bayou,one of America's first all-Black towns, showing how preserving historystrengthens civic pride and community resilience.� She has presented herresearch on cultural preservation at Harvard Law School, demonstrating thenational significance of her work.� Oncampus, Yasmine has served inleadership roles, including the Associated Student Body (ASB) President'sCabinet, The Columns Society, and founded OneUM, a student initiative promotingdialogue and unity; and���� WHEREAS, Yasmine has gainednational and international experience, interning with the U.S. House Committeeon Homeland Security, studying nuclear disarmament at the United Nations,exploring post-WWII memorialization in Germany and Japan, and examining nuclearstrategy at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Headquarters inBelgium.� She has reported as a media correspondent at the White House and isthe winner of The New York Times Podcast Contest for her narrative-drivenadvocacy; and���� WHEREAS, as Mississippi's2025 Truman Scholar, Yasmine was selected as the state's top nominee for herleadership, academic excellence, and commitment to public service.� She is oneof 54 Truman Scholars nationwide in 2025, each chosen for their potential tomake a lasting impact through public service.� The scholarship provides up to$30,000.00 to support graduate study and was established by the U.S. Congressas the official federal memorial to President Harry S.
