A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING
YASMINE WARE OF MADISON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HER SELECTION AS A 2025 HARRY S.
TRUMAN SCHOLAR, THE PRESTIGIOUS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS
INTERESTED IN PUBLIC SERVICE.
���� WHEREAS, Yasmine Ware of
Madison, Mississippi, has been named a 2025 Harry S. Truman Scholar, one of the
nation's most prestigious honors for students committed to public service; and
���� WHEREAS, a graduate of
Madison Central High School, Yasmine's family hails from Indianola, Mississippi,
in the heart of the Delta, a heritage that inspires her work to preserve and
share Mississippi's stories.� She is a senior at the University of Mississippi,
studying International Studies, Chinese, and Global Security Studies, and is a
member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and a Stamps Scholar;
and
���� WHEREAS, in 2019, she
founded Yasmine's Warehouse, a multimedia platform that uses storytelling to
explore how identity and environment shape our lives.� Through the platform,
she highlights the voices of Mississippians and people across the globe,
connecting local experiences to broader social contexts and policy; and
���� WHEREAS, her documentary, The
Mound Bayou Memoirs, and forthcoming podcast examine the legacy of Mound Bayou,
one of America's first all-Black towns, showing how preserving history
strengthens civic pride and community resilience.� She has presented her
research on cultural preservation at Harvard Law School, demonstrating the
national significance of her work.� On
campus, Yasmine has served in
leadership roles, including the Associated Student Body (ASB) President's
Cabinet, The Columns Society, and founded OneUM, a student initiative promoting
dialogue and unity; and
���� WHEREAS, Yasmine has gained
national and international experience, interning with the U.S. House Committee
on Homeland Security, studying nuclear disarmament at the United Nations,
exploring post-WWII memorialization in Germany and Japan, and examining nuclear
strategy at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Headquarters in
Belgium.� She has reported as a media correspondent at the White House and is
the winner of The New York Times Podcast Contest for her narrative-driven
advocacy; and
���� WHEREAS, as Mississippi's
2025 Truman Scholar, Yasmine was selected as the state's top nominee for her
leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to public service.� She is one
of 54 Truman Scholars nationwide in 2025, each chosen for their potential to
make a lasting impact through public service.� The scholarship provides up to
$30,000.00 to support graduate study and was established by the U.S. Congress
as the official federal memorial to President Harry S. Truman; and
���� WHEREAS, following
graduation, Yasmine plans to spend a year in Washington, D.C., and a year in
China before attending law school.� Jasmine intends to become a lawyer
specializing in heritage preservation, development, and security strategy,
using her Mississippi Delta roots and international experience to guide policy,
strengthen communities, and ensure that history informs the future; and
���� WHEREAS, it is with great
pride that we recognize a young Mississippian who has brought honor to her
school and university, her community and to the State of Mississippi:
���� NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Yasmine Ware of
Madison, Mississippi, upon her selection as a 2025 Harry S. Truman Scholar, the
Prestigious Graduate Scholarship Program for students interested in public
service, and recognize her commitment to make a lasting impact on her community
and state.
���� BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That
this resolution be presented to Yasmine Ware and her family and made available
to the Capitol Press Corps.
