sr1737/enrolled.txtSENATE RESOLUTION No. 1737A RESOLUTION honoring Vietnam War veterans for their service and sacrifice, remembering all who madethe ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam and those who remain missing in actionand calling the people of Kansas to observe Vietnam War Veterans Day.WHEREAS, March 29 is Vietnam War Veterans Day; andWHEREAS, This special day honors the nearly 9 million Americans who served during theVietnam War, including the 58,000 Americans who did not return home and those who did not get therecognition they deserved when they returned home; andWHEREAS, Of the 58,000 Americans who did not return home, over 1,500 members of the UnitedStates Armed Forces who served in Vietnam remain missing and unaccounted for through this day; andWHEREAS, Of the 141,797 wartime veterans living in Kansas, over ⅓ or approximately 53,287served during the Vietnam War; andWHEREAS, Many Vietnam War veterans who returned home faced mistreatment, discriminationand a lack of recognition and appreciation for their service; andWHEREAS, Significant battles, including the Tet Offensive, the Battle of Hue, the Battle of KheSanh, the Battle of Hamburger Hill and the Easter Offensive, exemplify the courage and bravery of thosemembers of the United States Armed Forces who served in Vietnam; andWHEREAS, Vietnam veterans from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Memorial Post 1367from Holton, Kansas, and the We-Ta-Se American Legion Post 410 from Mayetta, Kansas, join us today;andWHEREAS, The Vietnam veterans from the VFW Memorial Post 1367 and the We-Ta-SeAmerican Legion Post 410 embody the courage and bravery of those who served in Vietnam and make usproud to be Kansans: Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas: That we express profound gratitude to the menand women of the United States Armed Forces who served with courage and bravery in the Vietnam War;andBe it further resolved: That we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice during theVietnam War and those who remain missing in action from that conflict; andBe it further resolved: That we acknowledge the challenges and hardships faced by Vietnam Warveterans upon their return home and reaffirm Kansas' respect and appreciation for their service; andBe it further resolved: That we call upon the people of Kansas to observe Vietnam War VeteransDay on March 29 and remember the courage and bravery of the men and women who served in Vietnam;andBe it further resolved: That the Secretary of the Senate shall send two enrolled copies of thisresolution to Senator Bowser.Senate Resolution No. 1737 was sponsored by Senator Craig Bowser.I hereby certify that the above RESOLUTION originated in the SENATE, and was adopted by that body_____________________________________________________________________________________President of the Senate.___________________________________________Secretary of the Senate.
