HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 76
BY REPRESENTATIVE FREEMAN
A RESOLUTION
To commend Women of the Storm on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary.
WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize Women of the Storm for its continued
advocacy on behalf of businesses and communities throughout the Gulf Coast and to
commend the organization on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Women of the Storm is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical alliance formed in
2005 by women whose families, businesses, and lives were affected by Hurricanes Katrina
and Rita; and
WHEREAS, the organization is comprised of a diverse group of one hundred thirty
individuals; it is led by twelve dedicated women who have met nearly every Monday since
January 2006 to set an agenda and discuss projects and programs; and
WHEREAS, Women of the Storm has been joined by hundreds of individuals who
are passionate about rebuilding their homes, businesses, and communities, and the
organization is supported by national partners that include LINKS, the Junior League, the
Women's Leadership Initiative of United Way, and the National Council of Jewish Women;
and
WHEREAS, Women of the Storm's original mission was to draw the attention of
Congress, the national media, and policy leaders towards the needs of post-Katrina New
Orleans, post-Rita South Louisiana, and the entire Gulf Coast; although these areas are
culturally, socially, and economically diverse, the members share a passion for their
communities; and

WHEREAS, the organization continues to advocate for national media
acknowledgment of coastal restoration efforts, infrastructure needs, and other issues that are
vital to the rebuilding of wetlands in Louisiana and along the Gulf Coast; and
WHEREAS, Women of the Storm is most deserving of the highest recognition for
its unrelenting pursuit of the restoration of the diverse communities along the Gulf Coast.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Women of the Storm on the occasion of its
twentieth anniversary and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for its members'
contributions to the communities along the Gulf Coast.
