 SEAFOOD: Provides for preference given to Louisiana seafood by purchasing agents of the
  state
1AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 39:1604.8, relative to preference for Louisiana seafood; to provide for
3purchasing agents of the state to give preference to seafood from Louisiana; to
4provide for exceptions; and to provide for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6Section 1. R.S. 39:1604.8 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7§1604.8. Preference for Louisiana seafood
8A. When purchasing seafood, every person acting as purchasing agent for
9any agency, board, commission, department, or other instrumentality of the state or
10of a parish, municipality, or other unit of local government, shall purchase seafood
11which is taken, harvested, or landed in Louisiana, provided the cost of seafood which
12is taken, harvested, or landed in this state does not exceed by more than ten percent
13the cost of seafood which is obtained from outside of the state.
14B. The provisions of this Section shall not apply when sufficient quantities
15of seafood which is taken, harvested, or landed in Louisiana are not available.

Proposed law provides that any person acting as purchasing agent of the state must purchase
seafood which is taken, harvested, or landed in La., provided the cost of seafood which is
taken, harvested, or landed in this state does not exceed by more than 10% the cost of
seafood which is obtained from outside the of state.
Proposed law provides an exception when sufficient quantities of seafood which is taken,
harvested, or landed in La. are not available.
