4 SJR___ HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF LEE ROY JORDAN.

6WHEREAS, Lee Roy Jordan was born on April 27, 1941,
7 in Excel, Alabama, and rose from humble beginnings on a
8 rural farm to become one of the most respected and
9 accomplished figures in American football history; and
10WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan distinguished himself as a
11 student-athlete at The University of Alabama under the
12 leadership of Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, where he served as
13 team captain and helped lead the Crimson Tide to national
14 prominence, including victories in the Sugar Bowl and Orange
15 Bowl and a defense that allowed only three touchdowns in the
16 entire 1961 season; and
17WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan was selected in the first round
18 of the 1963 National Football League Draft by the Dallas
19 Cowboys, where he played his entire 14-year professional
20 career, earning two All-Pro selections, five Pro Bowl
21 appearances, and contributing to three Super Bowl
22 appearances, including the Cowboys' first Super Bowl victory
23 in 1972; and
24WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan was widely recognized not only
25 for his athletic prowess but also for his leadership,
26 tenacity, and commitment to excellence, serving as the
27 captain of the Cowboys' defense and helping to shape the
28 identity of the franchise during its transformation into

29 "America's Team"; and
30WHEREAS, his legacy extended beyond the field, as he
31 exemplified the values of hard work, integrity, and
32 perseverance, and remained a proud ambassador for the State
33 of Alabama throughout his life, including his induction into
34 the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983; and
35WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan's contributions to sport,
36 leadership, and community have left an indelible mark on
37 generations of athletes and fans, and his memory will
38 continue to inspire those who value teamwork, discipline,
39 and character; now therefore,
40BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
41 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we honor the life and legacy
42 of Lee Roy Jordan, express our deepest condolences to his
43 family, friends, and admirers, and recognize his
44 extraordinary contributions to the State of Alabama, the
45 sport of football, and the nation.
