hcr52/enrolled.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionHOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 52BY REPRESENTATIVE LAFLEURA CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONTo designate Tuesday, April 14, 2026, as AKA Day at the state capitol and to commend themembers of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, which has the distinctionof being the first Greek-letter sorority established by African American college women, wasfounded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908; andWHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's unending quest to be "Supreme inService to All Mankind" spans across domestic and international boundaries through theservice of members of more than one thousand chapters around the world; andWHEREAS, the state of Louisiana hosts chapters on college and university campusesand active alumnae groups throughout the state; andWHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, is a union of over threehundred thousand energetic, ambitious, and dedicated college-trained women who haveconsciously chosen this affiliation as a means of service to promote community initiativesin health preservation, preventative health education, academic excellence, civicengagement, and economic empowerment; andWHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, chapters encouragemembers to become involved and committed community volunteers in five primary servicetarget areas that actively contribute to the educational, civic, and social lives of the citizensof Louisiana; andWHEREAS, the current international program, Soaring to Greater Heights of Serviceand Sisterhood, has five initiatives: Empower Our Families, Build Our Economic Wealth,Enhance Our Environment, Advocate for Social Justice, and Uplift Our Local Community;andPage 1 of 2HCR NO. 52 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, AKA Day at the state capitol is a national program through whichAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority members throughout the nation meet with their legislators toaddress issues that are pertinent to their communities; andWHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the members of Alpha Kappa AlphaSorority, Incorporated, for one hundred eighteen years of exemplary leadership andoutstanding community service, and to designate Tuesday, April 14, 2026, as AKA Day atthe state capitol.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does herebydesignate Tuesday, April 14, 2026, as AKA Day at the state capitol; does hereby commendthe members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and does hereby commend andexpress enduring appreciation to the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated,for their exemplary leadership and outstanding community service and for the tremendoushonor and pride these women bring to their families, friends, communities, the state ofLouisiana, and our nation and to communities across the globe.SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPRESIDENT OF THE SENATEPage 2 of 2
