18WHEREAS, the Barton High School Bears boys' basketball team bested the
19 Mount Vernon-Enola Warhawks to take home the Class 2A state basketball
20 championship at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on March 12, 2026,
21 with a score of eighty-nine to forty-four (89-44); and
22
23WHEREAS, the Bears shot over seventy percent (70%) from the field
24 during the second half of the game, and, with this win, the Bears secured the
25 school's first state basketball championship; and
26
27WHEREAS, the Bears ended the season with an overall record of thirty-
28 four (34) wins and five (5) losses; and
29
30WHEREAS, the Bears' team members are Christian Williams, Anderson
31 Smith, Quinteryon Wilson, Jordan Humphrey, Qulan Green, Keshawn Ross, Dominic
32 Hill, Quinteruin Davis, Cameron Otey, Drayden Hardison, Daylan Magsby, and
33 Ronnell Williams; and

35WHEREAS, Bears' team member Quinteryon Wilson was the leading scorer
36 for the team with twenty-five (25) points; and

2      WHEREAS, Bears' team member Christian Williams was named the Class 2A
3 state championship game Most Valuable Player for scoring twenty-two (22)
4 points and providing three (3) assists; and
5
6      WHEREAS, the Bears were lead by Head Coach Chris Williams and assistant
7 coaches Martin Rawls and Demetris Johnson; and
8
9      WHEREAS, also integral to the Bears' success were managers Justin Ward,
10 Latravien Franklin, and Gilberto Zuniga, as well as the community support
11 provided to the team, including from Superintendent Dr. Bruce Guthrie and
12 Principal Megan Guthrie; and
13
14      WHEREAS, Head Coach Chris Williams said of the team's victory, "These
15 guys showed that they're the best team in 2A tonight by far.   I'm just super
16 proud, man",

18 NOW THEREFORE,
19 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

22      THAT the House of Representatives recognize the Barton High School
23 Bears boys' basketball team for their leadership, discipline, teamwork, and
24 sportsmanship and for winning the 2026 Class 2A state championship.
25
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be
27 presented to Head Coach Chris Williams by the Chief Clerk of the House of
28 Representatives.
