SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
pleased to honor individuals whose dedicated service has
enriched the lives of residents throughout the State of
Illinois; and
WHEREAS, The Village of Palos Park has requested that a
portion of Southwest Highway, generally located between 12600
and 13100, be designated as "Dave Sanders Way" in recognition
of David Sanders and his family's extraordinary and
longstanding contributions to the community and the greater
Chicagoland region; and
WHEREAS, For more than 90 years, the Sanders family has
served as steward of The Center in Palos Park, a unique and
cherished institution founded in 1932 by Reverend Paul T.
Sanders and his wife, Elizabeth Sanders, with the vision of
creating a place of peace, service, and spiritual connection
for all; and
WHEREAS, Over the decades, The Center has grown into a
vital regional resource encompassing approximately 65 acres on
both the east and west sides of Southwest Highway, continuing
to enrich the lives of individuals and families across
generations; and

WHEREAS, The Center's mission is to provide people of all
faiths, backgrounds, and ages with the space to dream, grow,
and become fully alive physically, mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually; and
WHEREAS, Under the quiet and dedicated leadership of David
Sanders, The Center has remained a place of inclusion, growth,
and service, offering a wide range of programs and resources,
including a sanctuary for worship, counseling, and reflection
through the Wayside Chapel, agricultural education through the
Children's Farm, youth camp programs, early childhood
education through the Farm and Nature Discovery School, arts
programming through the Log Cabin Center for the Arts, and
critical social services such as recovery programs, support
groups, and pastoral care; and
WHEREAS, David Sanders has recently announced his
retirement, marking the close of an extraordinary chapter of
hands-on leadership and lifelong service; and
WHEREAS, David Sanders has touched countless lives through
his humility, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping
others, and his influence has extended far beyond the borders
of Palos Park to leave a lasting impact throughout the
Chicagoland region; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the
portion of Southwest Highway between 12600 and 13100 in Palos
Park as "Dave Sanders Way"; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
is requested to erect and maintain appropriate signs
displaying the name "Dave Sanders Way" along this designated
portion of Southwest Highway; and be it further
RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
presented to David Sanders and his family, the Mayor of the
Village of Palos Park, and the Secretary of the Illinois
Department of Transportation.

Designates the portion of Southwest Highway between 12600 and 13100 in Palos Park as "Dave Sanders Way".
