hr149/enrolled.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionHOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 149BY REPRESENTATIVES LACOMBE AND MARTINEZA RESOLUTIONTo commend the Honorable Judge Alvin Batiste, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement fromthe Eighteenth Judicial District Court.WHEREAS, the Honorable Judge Alvin Batiste, Jr., has dedicated twenty-three yearsof distinguished and faithful service as the presiding judge of Division C of the EighteenthJudicial District Court, and served the citizens of Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West BatonRouge Parishes with integrity, fairness, and dedication; andWHEREAS, Judge Batiste further served with distinction as the chief judge of theEighteenth Judicial District Court and as presiding judge of the Iberville Parish Drug Courtfor fifteen years and demonstrated a deep commitment to justice, accountability, andrehabilitation; andWHEREAS, Judge Batiste is a proud graduate of the Southern University System;he earned a bachelor of science in economics from Southern University and a juris doctoratefrom the Southern University Law Center; he was inducted into the Southern University LawCenter Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal professionand his community; andWHEREAS, Judge Batiste's career reflects his lifetime commitment to publicservice, which includes honorable service in the United States Navy Judge Advocate GeneralCorps and roles as an assistant public defender, assistant attorney general, and the first chiefadministrative officer for Iberville Parish; andWHEREAS, Judge Batiste has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to civicengagement and youth mentorship through initiatives such as Judges in the Classroom,where he inspired students and strengthened public trust in the judicial system; andPage 1 of 2HR NO. 149 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, Judge Batiste is married to Barbara Thomas Batiste and is the proudfather of nine children; andWHEREAS, Judge Batiste exemplifies the highest ideals of leadership and service;he is truly deserving of recognition for his incredible career.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of theLegislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Judge Alvin Batiste, Jr., onthe occasion of his retirement from the Eighteenth Judicial District Court and does herebyextend enduring appreciation for his exemplary service to the citizens of the state ofLouisiana.SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPage 2 of 2
