BY REPRESENTATIVES LACOMBE AND MARTINEZ
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Honorable Judge Alvin Batiste, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from
the Eighteenth Judicial District Court.
WHEREAS, the Honorable Judge Alvin Batiste, Jr., has dedicated twenty-three years
of distinguished and faithful service as the presiding judge of Division C of the Eighteenth
Judicial District Court, and served the citizens of Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West Baton
Rouge Parishes with integrity, fairness, and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Judge Batiste further served with distinction as the chief judge of the
Eighteenth Judicial District Court and as presiding judge of the Iberville Parish Drug Court
for fifteen years and demonstrated a deep commitment to justice, accountability, and
rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, Judge Batiste is a proud graduate of the Southern University System;
he earned a bachelor of science in economics from Southern University and a juris doctorate
from the Southern University Law Center; he was inducted into the Southern University Law
Center Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession
and his community; and
WHEREAS, Judge Batiste's career reflects his lifetime commitment to public
service, which includes honorable service in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General
Corps and roles as an assistant public defender, assistant attorney general, and the first chief
administrative officer for Iberville Parish; and
WHEREAS, Judge Batiste has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to civic
engagement and youth mentorship through initiatives such as Judges in the Classroom,
where he inspired students and strengthened public trust in the judicial system; and

WHEREAS, Judge Batiste is married to Barbara Thomas Batiste and is the proud
father of nine children; and
WHEREAS, Judge Batiste exemplifies the highest ideals of leadership and service;
he is truly deserving of recognition for his incredible career.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Judge Alvin Batiste, Jr., on
the occasion of his retirement from the Eighteenth Judicial District Court and does hereby
extend enduring appreciation for his exemplary service to the citizens of the state of
Louisiana.
