House concurrent resolution congratulating Grant Montgomery on hisdual State championship alpine skiing victories.(H.C.R.256)Offered by Representatives Luneau of St. Albans City, Bartley of Fairfax, Branagan ofGeorgia, Brigham of St. Albans Town, Demar of Enosburgh, Dickinson of St. AlbansTown, Gregoire of Fairfield, Hango of Berkshire, Laroche of Franklin, Oliver of Sheldon,and Walker of SwantonWhereas, the absence of a varsity alpine skiing team at Bellows Free Academy-St.Albans has not deterred junior Grant Montgomery’s competitive aspirations, and hearranged to train as an independent with Rice Memorial High School at Cochran’s skiarea, gaining the benefits of Rice Coach Bob Cochran’s guidance and the experience ofracing with the Rice team, andWhereas, this unusual arrangement, in combination with racing alongside coachesfrom the Smugglers’ Notch Ski and Snowboard Club, built a great foundation for GrantMontgomery to establish an enviable record of achievement during the 2025–2026 alpineski racing season, andWhereas, Grant Montgomery won nearly every race he entered, and his highexpectations for strong performances at the season finale’s district, State, and regionalmeets were exceeded, andWhereas, at the start of this critical circuit, Grant Montgomery warmed up bycapturing first place in both the giant slalom and slalom races at the northern districtevent at the Middlebury Snowbowl, andWhereas, after only a few intervening days, Grant Montgomery headed to BurkeMountain Resort for the greater challenge of the two-day State championship, andWhereas, in day one’s giant slalom, he finished the first of the two runs in fourthplace, and a strong second run gave him a combined time of 1:53:68, a narrow butdecisive .22 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, and on day two at Burke, his twooutstanding slalom runs scored a combined time of 1:29:24, a comfortable 3.72 secondsahead of the runner-up, enabling him to clinch both individual titles and complete adouble-header victory, andWhereas, his superb 2026 winter on the slopes earned Grant Montgomery a covetedspot on Vermont’s Eastern High School Championship alpine team, and at the AttitashMountain Resort event in New Hampshire, the Vermonters were pleased with theiroverall fourth-place finish, andWhereas, in recognition of his stupendous results at Burke Mountain, the St. AlbansMessenger named him the newspaper’s Athlete of the Week, now therefore be itResolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:That the General Assembly congratulates Grant Montgomery on his dual Statechampionship alpine skiing victories, and be it furtherVT LEG #389143 v.1
