No. R-314. House concurrent resolution congratulating Grant Montgomery on his
dual State championship alpine skiing victories.

   Offered by Representatives Luneau of St. Albans City, Bartley of Fairfax, Branagan of
Georgia, Brigham of St. Albans Town, Demar of Enosburgh, Dickinson of St. Albans
Town, Gregoire of Fairfield, Hango of Berkshire, Laroche of Franklin, Oliver of Sheldon,
and Walker of Swanton
   Whereas, the absence of a varsity alpine skiing team at Bellows Free Academy-St.
Albans has not deterred junior Grant Montgomery’s competitive aspirations, and he
arranged to train as an independent with Rice Memorial High School at Cochran’s ski
area, gaining the benefits of Rice Coach Bob Cochran’s guidance and the experience of
racing with the Rice team, and
   Whereas, this unusual arrangement, in combination with racing alongside coaches
from the Smugglers’ Notch Ski and Snowboard Club, built a great foundation for Grant
Montgomery to establish an enviable record of achievement during the 2025–2026 alpine
ski racing season, and
   Whereas, Grant Montgomery won nearly every race he entered, and his high
expectations for strong performances at the season finale’s district, State, and regional
meets were exceeded, and
   Whereas, at the start of this critical circuit, Grant Montgomery warmed up by
capturing first place in both the giant slalom and slalom races at the northern district
event at the Middlebury Snowbowl, and
  Whereas, after only a few intervening days, Grant Montgomery headed to Burke
Mountain Resort for the greater challenge of the two-day State championship, and
   Whereas, in day one’s giant slalom, he finished the first of the two runs in fourth
place, and a strong second run gave him a combined time of 1:53:68, a narrow but
decisive .22 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, and on day two at Burke, his two
outstanding slalom runs scored a combined time of 1:29:24, a comfortable 3.72 seconds
ahead of the runner-up, enabling him to clinch both individual titles and complete a
double-header victory, and
   Whereas, his superb 2026 winter on the slopes earned Grant Montgomery a coveted
spot on Vermont’s Eastern High School Championship alpine team, and at the Attitash
Mountain Resort event in New Hampshire, the Vermonters were pleased with their
overall fourth-place finish, and
  Whereas, in recognition of his stupendous results at Burke Mountain, the St. Albans
Messenger named him the newspaper’s Athlete of the Week, now therefore be it
   Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
   That the General Assembly congratulates Grant Montgomery on his dual State
championship alpine skiing victories, and be it further
