HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 1609

A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Ricky Woods upon his
induction into the National Wrestling Hall of
Fame.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly pay tribute to those
gifted athletes, coaches, and administrators who have attained the very pinnacle of sporting
achievement; and
WHEREAS, Ricky Woods is one such legendary coach, who was recently inducted into
the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in the Lifetime Achievement category, a most befitting
honor that recognizes his unwavering dedication, passion, and excellence in wrestling; and
WHEREAS, an iconic figure within the annals of the wrestling program at Harpeth High
School, Mr. Woods has devoted thirty-four years of remarkable service as head coach; his
astute guidance has shaped the lives of countless young athletes, fostering competitive spirit
and personal growth in his wrestlers; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Woods joined Harpeth High School's wrestling program in 1997, and
since then, he has guided thirty-seven athletes to State medals, exemplifying a high standard of
excellence; and
WHEREAS, his outstanding contributions to wrestling have been duly recognized with
the 2025 TSSAA Distinguished Service Award and three Coach of the Year honors, further
highlighting his impact on the sport at the State level; and
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, Ricky Woods has demonstrated
leadership, skill, and athleticism, inspiring generations of wrestlers and earning the respect of
the entire wrestling community; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should pause to honor Coach Woods on this special
occasion, celebrating both his remarkable achievements and the enduring legacy he leaves for
future athletes; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate Ricky Woods upon his induction into the
National Wrestling Hall of Fame and extend to him our best wishes for much continued success
and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
without House or Senate designation.
