Reed Walters on the occasion of his retirement as district attorney of theTwenty-Eighth Judicial District.WHEREAS, it is most fitting to recognize J. Reed Walters for his dedicated serviceto LaSalle Parish and the state of Louisiana and to commend him on his retirement as districtattorney of the Twenty-Eighth Judicial District; andWHEREAS, Mr. Walters is the son of Charles Walters, a forty-year employee ofInternational Paper Company, and Betty Walters, who dedicated more than thirty years ofservice as a first grade teacher at Olla Elementary School; he was the youngest of fourchildren who were raised in the Standard community near Olla, Louisiana; andWHEREAS, Mr. Walters graduated from LaSalle High School, Northeast LouisianaUniversity, and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center; after earning his law degree, he set upa law practice in his home community; andWHEREAS, Mr. Walters took his first oath of office as the newly elected districtattorney of the Twenty-Eighth Judicial District in January of 1991; he went on to serve inthis capacity for thirty-six years and holds the distinction of being the second-longest servingdistrict attorney in Louisiana history; andWHEREAS, throughout his tenure as district attorney, Mr. Walters prioritized theprotection and service of the citizens of LaSalle Parish and the fulfillment of his oath to thebest of his ability; among his many achievements, he delivered on his promise to be presentduring trials and to complete most of the trial work during prosecutions; andPage 1 of 2HCR NO. 83 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, Mr. Walters served on the District Attorneys' Retirement System boardof trustees, Red River Law Enforcement Planning Agency board of directors, LouisianaCommission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice, and LouisianaDistrict Attorneys Association board of directors; andWHEREAS, Mr. Walters centers his life around his faith and devotion to Christ andis a longtime member of Midway Baptist Church; he credits his faith as the driving forcebehind his success as district attorney and has expressed deep gratitude for the support andprayers of the members of Midway Baptist and the Christian citizens of the LaSalle Parish;andWHEREAS, Mr. Walters is most proud of the work he has done to help citizens inneed, which he considers the greatest source of satisfaction in his role as district attorney;he is most deserving of recognition for his unwavering respect and guardianship of thecitizens of LaSalle Parish and the state of Louisiana.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does herebycommend J.
