hcr84/enrolled.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionHOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 84BY REPRESENTATIVES WILEY, BACALA, BRASS, AND EDMONSTON ANDSENATORS LAMBERT AND PRICEA CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONTo commend Barney Arceneaux on the occasion of his retirement.WHEREAS, it is with immense pride and profound gratitude that the Legislature ofLouisiana recognizes Barney Arceneaux for dedicating more than five decades to publicservice and to commend him on the occasion of his retirement; andWHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux served in law enforcement from 1972 to 2005; he servedas the assistant chief of the Gonzales Police Department from 1979 to 1983 and as chief ofthe department from 1984 to 1992; he worked in major criminal operations with theAscension Parish Sheriff's Office from 1993 to 1999, served as a sergeant at arms for theLouisiana House of Representatives in 2004, and worked with the Southern Anti-TerroristRegional Training Academy from 2004 to 2005; andWHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux served as the director of planning and development forAscension Parish from 1999 to 2004 and worked as the district director for CongressmanCharlie Melancon from 2005 to 2008; andWHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux served from 2008 to 2024 as mayor of the city ofGonzales, a role in which he provided a vision and direction for the city's growth and qualityof life; during his tenure as mayor, he served as the president of the Louisiana MunicipalAssociation from 2016 to 2017; andWHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux most recently served as the executive director of theLouisiana Municipal Association, where he provided mentorship and guidance to localelected officials and staff and strengthened the relationship between the state and localgovernments; he has consistently demonstrated a steadfast commitment to strengtheningPage 1 of 2HCR NO. 84 ENROLLEDlocal government, supporting municipal leaders, and improving the quality of life for thecitizens he served; andWHEREAS, Mr. Arceneaux has been a member of numerous professionalorganizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the LouisianaSheriffs' Association; andWHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Arceneaux's dedication to public service, he is adevoted father and grandfather; he is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served asa military policeman from 1970 to 1976; andWHEREAS, Barney Arceneaux is deserving of recognition for his leadership andlifelong dedication to public service in Louisiana.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does herebycommend Barney Arceneaux on the occasion of his retirement; does hereby expressenduring appreciation for his outstanding contributions to the city of Gonzales and the stateof Louisiana; and does hereby extend sincere wishes that he remains prosperous as he beginsa new phase of life in retirement.SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPRESIDENT OF THE SENATEPage 2 of 2
