hr1056/enrolled.txtResolutionENROLLED HOUSERESOLUTION NO. 1056 By: MunsonA Resolution proclaiming the month of April as SexualAssault Awareness Month and declaring Wednesday,April 29, 2026, as Denim Day.WHEREAS, the United States Government has declared April asSexual Assault Awareness Month and the nonprofit organizations PeaceOver Violence and the Young Women's Christian Association havedeclared April 29, 2026, as Denim Day; andWHEREAS, both events are intended to draw attention to the factthat sexual violence remains a serious issue in our society; andWHEREAS, sexual violence has a profound and lasting impact onindividuals, families, and communities, affecting people of allages, races, national origins, faiths, gender identities, sexualorientations, immigration statuses, and economic backgrounds; andWHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day were alsoinstituted to call attention to misconceptions and misinformationabout sexual violence and the problem that many people in oursociety remain disturbingly uninformed with respect to issues ofsexual harassment, assault, abuse, and rape; andWHEREAS, national data indicate that one in three women and onein four men will experience some form of sexual violence duringtheir lifetime, with even higher rates reported among people ofcolor, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and members ofunderserved communities; andWHEREAS, every sixty-eight seconds, somewhere in America,someone is sexually assaulted, and every nine minutes, that victimis a child; andWHEREAS, one in three female victims of completed or attemptedrape experienced it for the first time between the ages of elevenand seventeen; andWHEREAS, in 2022, the State of Oklahoma ranked eighth in theUnited States for rape rates, with approximately 4,500 sexualassault cases in 2021; andWHEREAS, workplace harassment is part of this issue, with one inseven women leaving jobs due to sexual harassment; andWHEREAS, with the support of compassionate community networksand dedicated victim service providers, survivors can begin toprocess trauma and rebuild their lives in environments where theyare heard, respected, and supported; andWHEREAS, collaboration among elected officials, faith leaders,educators, businesses, service providers, and community membersstrengthens pathways for survivors to access resources that promotesafety, healing, and justice; andWHEREAS, members of the Oklahoma House of Representativesstrongly support the efforts of Peace Over Violence and the YoungWomen's Christian Association of Oklahoma City to educate persons inour state about the true impact of sexual harassment, abuse,assault, and rape in Oklahoma.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESOF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 60TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives does hereby proclaimthe month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives does hereby designateApril 29, 2026, as Denim Day and urges everyone to wear jeans onthis day to help communicate the message that there is no excuse andthere is never an invitation to harass, abuse, assault or rape.ENR.
