hr227/enrolled.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionHOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 227BY REPRESENTATIVE ILLGA RESOLUTIONTo commend Young Marine Sergeant Major Valerie Huete on being named Division 4Young Marine of the Year and to recognize her exemplary leadership, academicachievement, and service.WHEREAS, the Young Marines is a national youth leadership and service programdedicated to developing disciplined, drug-free, and responsible citizens through leadershiptraining, community service, and education; andWHEREAS, the organization serves approximately seven thousand youth membersacross the United States and is divided into six geographic divisions; the divisions eachselect a Division Young Marine of the Year based on leadership, academic performance,physical fitness, and community involvement; andWHEREAS, Young Marine Sergeant Major Valerie Huete is a resident of RiverRidge, Louisiana, and member of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines unit;she has been selected as the Division 4 Young Marine of the Year, which is one of thehighest distinctions within the program; andWHEREAS, this honor places her among the top six Young Marines out ofapproximately seven thousand participants in the United States and reflects her exceptionalcharacter, leadership, and commitment to service; she competed against top Young Marinesfrom across multiple states within Division 4, including Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma,Arkansas, and Mississippi; andWHEREAS, Valerie Huete is a student at Patrick F. Taylor Science and TechnologyAcademy in Jefferson Parish, which is a highly regarded academic institution known for itsrigorous curriculum and emphasis on science, technology, and leadership development; heracademic success, combined with her participation in extracurricular and athletic activities,demonstrates a well-rounded dedication to excellence; andPage 1 of 2HR NO. 227 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, Sergeant Major Huete has demonstrated leadership, mentored fellowYoung Marines, and served her community with distinction throughout her time in theYoung Marines program; she exemplifies the core values of honor, courage, andcommitment; andWHEREAS, Sergeant Major Huete has received steadfast support and guidance fromher parents, Darren and Vanessa Huete, who have been instrumental in her success; she hasalso benefitted from the mentorship, training, and commitment of the dedicated adultvolunteers and leaders of the Young Marines program, including the Jefferson ParishSheriff's Office Young Marines unit and Unit Commander Tammy Williams; andWHEREAS, Sergeant Major Huete's achievements bring great pride to her family,Patrick F.
