A RESOLUTION
To commend Young Marine Sergeant Major Valerie Huete on being named Division 4
Young Marine of the Year and to recognize her exemplary leadership, academic
achievement, and service.
WHEREAS, the Young Marines is a national youth leadership and service program
dedicated to developing disciplined, drug-free, and responsible citizens through leadership
training, community service, and education; and
WHEREAS, the organization serves approximately seven thousand youth members
across the United States and is divided into six geographic divisions; the divisions each
select a Division Young Marine of the Year based on leadership, academic performance,
physical fitness, and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, Young Marine Sergeant Major Valerie Huete is a resident of River
Ridge, Louisiana, and member of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines unit;
she has been selected as the Division 4 Young Marine of the Year, which is one of the
highest distinctions within the program; and
WHEREAS, this honor places her among the top six Young Marines out of
approximately seven thousand participants in the United States and reflects her exceptional
character, leadership, and commitment to service; she competed against top Young Marines
from across multiple states within Division 4, including Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, and Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Valerie Huete is a student at Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology
Academy in Jefferson Parish, which is a highly regarded academic institution known for its
rigorous curriculum and emphasis on science, technology, and leadership development; her
academic success, combined with her participation in extracurricular and athletic activities,
demonstrates a well-rounded dedication to excellence; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Huete has demonstrated leadership, mentored fellow
Young Marines, and served her community with distinction throughout her time in the
Young Marines program; she exemplifies the core values of honor, courage, and
commitment; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Huete has received steadfast support and guidance from
her parents, Darren and Vanessa Huete, who have been instrumental in her success; she has
also benefitted from the mentorship, training, and commitment of the dedicated adult
volunteers and leaders of the Young Marines program, including the Jefferson Parish
Sheriff's Office Young Marines unit and Unit Commander Tammy Williams; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Huete's achievements bring great pride to her family,
Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office
Young Marines unit, the citizens of Jefferson Parish, and the state of Louisiana; it is fitting
to recognize her efforts as her fellow citizens look forward to her continued success and
future contributions to her community and nation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Young Marine Sergeant Major Valerie
Huete on being named Division 4 Young Marine of the Year; does hereby recognize her as
one of the top young leaders in the nation; and does hereby extend its sincere appreciation
to her parents and family for their encouragement and support and to the adult leaders and
volunteers of the Young Marines program for their dedication to developing future leaders.
