HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 109
BY REPRESENTATIVE BOYD
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
To commend Special Olympics Louisiana for providing athletic programs for children and
adults.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes
Special Olympics Louisiana for its ongoing efforts to provide children and adults with
opportunities to compete in athletic events and develop physical fitness; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana provides year-round sports training and
athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with
intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Special Olympics Louisiana is to give individuals with
intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate
courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their
families, fellow Special Olympic athletes, and the community; and
WHEREAS, the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program is aimed at
promoting social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities that
affect systems-wide change; the goals of the program include providing students with and
without intellectual disabilities with meaningful unified sports opportunities and inclusive
youth leadership opportunities and increasing awareness and education activities that
promote inclusion and engage all students in creating a socially-inclusive school climate;
and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana seeks to challenge the mistaken belief that
people with intellectual disabilities receive the same or better health care than others and
advocate for improved healthcare opportunities for these individuals; and

WHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana is deserving of recognition for its continued
efforts to create inclusive spaces for individuals with intellectual disabilities, promote their
health and wellness through athletics, and improve their overall quality of life.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Special Olympics Louisiana for providing athletic programs for children and
adults and does hereby extend sincere wishes that the organization continue to prosper in its
endeavors to support individuals with intellectual disabilities.
