hcr109/enrolled.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionHOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 109BY REPRESENTATIVE BOYDA CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONTo commend Special Olympics Louisiana for providing athletic programs for children andadults.WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana recognizesSpecial Olympics Louisiana for its ongoing efforts to provide children and adults withopportunities to compete in athletic events and develop physical fitness; andWHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana provides year-round sports training andathletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults withintellectual disabilities; andWHEREAS, the mission of Special Olympics Louisiana is to give individuals withintellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstratecourage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with theirfamilies, fellow Special Olympic athletes, and the community; andWHEREAS, the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program is aimed atpromoting social inclusion through intentionally planned and implemented activities thataffect systems-wide change; the goals of the program include providing students with andwithout intellectual disabilities with meaningful unified sports opportunities and inclusiveyouth leadership opportunities and increasing awareness and education activities thatpromote inclusion and engage all students in creating a socially-inclusive school climate;andWHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana seeks to challenge the mistaken belief thatpeople with intellectual disabilities receive the same or better health care than others andadvocate for improved healthcare opportunities for these individuals; andPage 1 of 2HCR NO. 109 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, Special Olympics Louisiana is deserving of recognition for its continuedefforts to create inclusive spaces for individuals with intellectual disabilities, promote theirhealth and wellness through athletics, and improve their overall quality of life.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does herebycommend Special Olympics Louisiana for providing athletic programs for children andadults and does hereby extend sincere wishes that the organization continue to prosper in itsendeavors to support individuals with intellectual disabilities.SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPRESIDENT OF THE SENATEPage 2 of 2
