HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 325

Fitzgerald, Rheingans, Andrews, Edwards, Koleszar, Skaggs, McFall, Dievendorf,
Young, Price, Hoskins, Rogers, O'Neal, Conlin, Breen, Wooden, Wegela, Scott,
Morgan, T. Carter, Miller, Puri, Martus, Steckloff, Pohutsky, B. Carter,
Brixie, Glanville, MacDonell and Coffia offered the following resolution:
A resolution urging President Trump, the Internal Revenue
Service, and all parties to the settlement agreement creating the
“Anti-Weaponization Fund” to rescind the agreement.
Whereas, The people of Michigan expect their hard-earned tax
dollars to be used responsibly, transparently, and in furtherance of the public
good; and
Whereas, The American people’s tax dollars are being used to
settle a lawsuit filed by President Trump, in his personal capacity, members of
the Trump family, and the Trump Organization against the Internal Revenue
Service and United States Department of Treasury; and
Whereas, As part of this settlement agreement, the President
and members of his Administration have created a so-called “Anti-Weaponization
Fund” which may channel taxpayer dollars to individuals convicted and later
pardoned by the President of crimes arising from the violent attack on the
United States Capitol on January 6, 2021; and
Whereas, Among the potential recipients of such support are
individuals affiliated with extremist organizations including the Oath Keepers
and Proud Boys, whose members participated in efforts to disrupt the peaceful
transfer of power following the free and fair presidential election in 2020;
and
Whereas, Numerous participants in the January 6 attack
assaulted and injured law enforcement officers while attempting to obstruct the
certification of the Electoral College vote of the 2020 presidential election;
and
Whereas, Michigan taxpayers should never be compelled,
directly or indirectly, to subsidize or legitimize individuals who engaged in
political violence, attacks on police officers, or efforts to overturn lawful
election results; and
Whereas, The use of public taxpayer monies for
ideologically-motivated purposes that undermine confidence in democratic
institutions represents the most profound and gravest breach of public trust
possible by the Trump-Vance Administration; and
Whereas, Elected officials have taken a solemn oath to defend
the Constitution and faithfully discharge the duties of their office, which
include upholding our democracy, supporting law enforcement, and ensuring that
taxpayer dollars are spent in a lawful and ethical manner; now, therefore, be
it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we urge
President Trump, the Internal Revenue Service, and all parties to the
settlement agreement creating the “Anti-Weaponization Fund” to rescind the
agreement; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
President Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, the Chief Executive
Officer of the Internal Revenue Service, and the Secretary of the United States
Department of the Treasury.
