hr392/enrolled.txtENROLLED2026 Regular SessionHOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 392BY REPRESENTATIVE WALTERSA RESOLUTIONTo recognize the importance of solemnity, remembrance, and respect on Memorial Day.WHEREAS, Memorial Day is the foremost annual day to mourn and honor thedeceased service men and women of the United States of America; andWHEREAS, the "Memorial Day Act" was issued on May 5, 1868, to formallyestablish a Decoration Day on which Americans would remember its war dead and decoratetheir graves with flowers; andWHEREAS, Decoration Day became known as Memorial Day and continuedthrough the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as an informal patriotic holiday;after World War I, the day was expanded to honor those who died in all American wars; andWHEREAS, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, enacted in 1968 and made effectivein 1971, designated Memorial Day as a national holiday and established its commemorationon the last Monday in May; andWHEREAS, Memorial Day is an opportunity for American citizens to solemnlyhonor and remember the courageous service men and women who have given their lives toprotect the freedoms they enjoy.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of theLegislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize the importance of solemnity, remembrance,and respect on Memorial Day and does hereby encourage citizens to honor fallen UnitedStates service members with the utmost reverence and sincerity.SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESPage 1 of 1
