Massett on the occasion of his sixtiethJubilee of Ordination.WHEREAS, the Reverend Monsignor Robert D. Massett was born on December 6,1938, and baptized on December 25, 1938; his home church parish was St. Cecilia CatholicChurch, and he graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1955 at Holy Cross School; andWHEREAS, prior to discerning his vocation, Reverend Monsignor Massett studiesengineering at Tulane University; he then attended St. Joseph Seminary College andreceived a bachelor of arts and graduated cum laude from Notre Dame Seminary; andWHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett completed his religious education at theAmerican College of the Immaculate Conception in Louvain, Belgium, and was ordainedby Archbishop Hannan on June 11, 1966; andWHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett celebrated his first mass on June 12,1966, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church and received his priest on June 27, 1966, serving at OurLady of the Rosary; his final assignment was as pastor of St. Mary Magdalen CatholicChurch, where he served from 1995 until his retirement in 2016; andWHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett has also served at St. Rita in Harahan, St.Frances Cabrini, St. Mark, and the Chancery's Office of Catholic Schools, ChristianFormation, and CYO; he served chaplaincies at the Serra Club, CCSCC, Cabrini HighSchool, and Archbishop Chapelle High School; andWHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett currently serves as the priest in residenceat Metairie Manor and has held this role since 2016; he is known as "The Marryin' Priest"for having officiated at more than one thousand five hundred weddings; andPage 1 of 2HR NO. 397 ENROLLEDWHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Robert D. Massett is most deserving ofrecognition for dedicating six decades of service in Catholic ministry.THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of theLegislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Reverend Monsignor Robert D.
