HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 397

  A RESOLUTION
To commend the Reverend Monsignor Robert D. Massett on the occasion of his sixtieth
       Jubilee of Ordination.
       WHEREAS, the Reverend Monsignor Robert D. Massett was born on December 6,
1938, and baptized on December 25, 1938; his home church parish was St. Cecilia Catholic
Church, and he graduated as salutatorian of the Class of 1955 at Holy Cross School; and
       WHEREAS, prior to discerning his vocation, Reverend Monsignor Massett studies
engineering at Tulane University; he then attended St. Joseph Seminary College and
received a bachelor of arts and graduated cum laude from Notre Dame Seminary; and
       WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett completed his religious education at the
American College of the Immaculate Conception in Louvain, Belgium, and was ordained
by Archbishop Hannan on June 11, 1966; and
       WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett celebrated his first mass on June 12,
1966, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church and received his priest on June 27, 1966, serving at Our
Lady of the Rosary; his final assignment was as pastor of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic
Church, where he served from 1995 until his retirement in 2016; and
       WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett has also served at St. Rita in Harahan, St.
Frances Cabrini, St. Mark, and the Chancery's Office of Catholic Schools, Christian
Formation, and CYO; he served chaplaincies at the Serra Club, CCSCC, Cabrini High
School, and Archbishop Chapelle High School; and
       WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Massett currently serves as the priest in residence
at Metairie Manor and has held this role since 2016; he is known as "The Marryin' Priest"
for having officiated at more than one thousand five hundred weddings; and

       WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Robert D. Massett is most deserving of
recognition for dedicating six decades of service in Catholic ministry.
       THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Reverend Monsignor Robert D. Massett
on the occasion of his sixtieth Jubilee of Ordination and does hereby extend sincere wishes
that he remain happy, healthy, and prosperous as he continues to fulfill his vocational duties.
