     By: Representatives Davis of the 87th, Cummings of the 39th, and Jones of the 60th
                                A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing and commending the 50th Southern Regional Conference and the Centennial
2 Celebration of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.; and for other
3 purposes.
4 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. is a private nonprofit organization founded on
5 January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University and is dedicated to public
6 service, scholarship, sisterhood, and social action; and
7 WHEREAS, the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was established in
8 Atlanta, Georgia, in 1926 and has served communities throughout the southeastern United
9 States for 100 years through advocacy, educational initiatives, leadership development, and
10 community engagement; and
11 WHEREAS, in 2026, the Southern Region proudly celebrates its Centennial Anniversary,
12 marking a century of unwavering commitment to uplifting underserved communities,
13 empowering women and families, and advancing educational, economic, health, and civic
14 opportunities for all; and

15 WHEREAS, the 50th Southern Regional Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, from
16 August 7 through August 9, 2026, bringing together thousands of members, leaders, and
17 guests to commemorate this historic milestone and to continue the organization's mission of
18 service and leadership; and
19 WHEREAS, Atlanta holds special significance as the birthplace of the Southern Region,
20 making this conference both a homecoming and a celebration of the organization's enduring
21 legacy; and
22 WHEREAS, throughout its history, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has positively impacted
23 communities through programs focused on educational development, economic
24 empowerment, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and
25 political awareness and involvement; and
26 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has long been recognized by a Georgia
27 specialty license plate, and recent legislation enhanced this designation by converting the
28 license plate into a revenue-sharing specialty license plate, creating a sustainable funding
29 source to support scholarships, community-based programs, and service initiatives
30 throughout the State of Georgia; and
31 WHEREAS, this legislative achievement reflects the enduring impact of Delta Sigma Theta
32 Sorority Inc. and reinforces its commitment to educational advancement, health equity,
33 economic empowerment, social justice, and civic engagement through investments that will
34 benefit generations to come; and

35 WHEREAS, the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. have distinguished themselves
36 through extraordinary acts of service, civic engagement, and advocacy that strengthen
37 communities throughout Georgia and beyond; and
38 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding contributions and historic
39 achievements of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. be appropriately
40 recognized.
41 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that
42 the members of this body recognize and commend the 50th Southern Regional Conference
43 and the Centennial Celebration of the Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.,
44 extend a warm welcome to all attendees visiting Atlanta, Georgia, and congratulate the
45 organization on 100 years of exemplary service, leadership, scholarship, sisterhood, and
46 social action.
47 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
48 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the
49 Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the Southern Regional Director, the
50 Conference Leadership Team, the Decatur Alumnae, and the Stone Mountain-Lithonia
51 Alumnae Chapter.
