Document has been reformatted to meet World Wide Web specifications.)A house RESOLUTIONTO Celebrate the historic two hundredth anniversaryof Walnut Grove Baptist Church, and to commend the church for two centuries ofservice to the Greenwood County community and the State of South Carolina.Whereas, the SouthCarolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Walnut Grove BaptistChurch, of Greenwood County, will celebrate its bicentennial anniversary onSeptember 27, 2026; andWhereas, the church wasconstituted on June 26, 1826, in what was then the Abbeville District, underthe ministry of the Reverend Arthur Williams, Chesley Davis, and the ReverendMoses Holland. The eighteen original charter members were drawn from the firstpioneer families, whose names are still written across the land and thechurchyard today. Through two centuries of war, hardship, and change, thecongregation has never ceased to gather; andWhereas, thecongregation first met in a simple brush arbor along Mulberry Creek, with the currentsanctuary being built in the 1950s on Morgan Road. Today, Walnut Grovecontinues the old and reverent forms of worship, singing from traditionalhymnals that carried the faith of its forebears; andWhereas, for twohundred years, Walnut Grove Baptist Church has remained a faithful and activefellowship, standing as a house of worship and a pillar of the Greenwoodcommunity. They are devoted to preaching the Word of God and serving thecommunity. As the church enters its third century, they are looking forwardwith the same conviction that gathered its first members: to carry the Gospelof Faith, Hope, and Love into the twenty-first century and beyond. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, celebrate the historic two hundredth anniversary of WalnutGrove Baptist Church, and commend the church for two centuries of service tothe Greenwood County community and the State of South Carolina.Be it further resolvedthat a copy of this resolution be presented to Walnut Grove Baptist Church.----XX----This web page was last updated on August 11, 2026 at 03:08 PM
