1		HOUSE RESOLUTION
2		    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3		Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend
4		David Coleman Sr., who passed away on July 21, 2026; and
5		    WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman was born to Reverend John and Ruby
6		Coleman in Parkdale, Arkansas on May 14, 1934; and
7		    WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman worked as a maintenance man at
8		Stone Terrace Apartments on Chicago's South Side for more than
9		20 years, where he became known for his exceptional work
10		ethic, craftsmanship, and willingness to help others; and
11		    WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman served as the pastoral leadership
12		of New Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50
13		years, during which time he purchased, renovated, and
14		transformed a former warehouse into the church's permanent
15		home; under his leadership, the church served as a community
16		sanctuary where youth programs, choir ministries, neighborhood
17		gatherings, meal distributions, and countless community events
18		flourished; the church also hosted early campaign activities
19		for the mayoral campaign of Mayor Harold Washington and later
20		supported the aldermanic campaigns of Alderperson Shirley A.
21		Coleman; and

1		    WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman devoted his life to faith, family,
2		service, and the advancement of Chicago's Englewood community;
3		his extraordinary contributions to the spiritual, civic, and
4		social fabric of the Englewood community will leave an
5		enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations to
6		come; therefore, be it
7		    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8		HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9		we mourn the passing of Reverend David Coleman Sr. and extend
10		our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
11		knew and loved him; and be it further
12		    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13		presented to the family of Pastor Coleman as an expression of
14		our deepest sympathy.
