A house RESOLUTION
To honor and congratulate Mark A. Williams, of
Sumter County, upon receiving the inaugural Swan Lake Sentinel Award at the
2026 Swan Lake Premiere Film Festival.
Whereas, the members of
the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that on
September 11, 2026, Mark A. Williams will receive the inaugural Swan Lake
Sentinel Award in recognition of his exceptional military service and enduring
contributions to the art of filmmaking at the Swan Lake Premiere Film Festival
held at the Sumter Little Theatre; and
Whereas, Mark Williams
is a retired and disabled United States Army Major who honorably served his
country for twenty-three years as a combat engineer before bringing his
leadership and creativity to the Sumter community. He is the founder of
MAWilliams Films, an independent film production company. He is dedicated to expanding
Sumter's presence in the entertainment industry by creating opportunities for
local actors, artists, and production talent; and
Whereas, as a
filmmaker, Major Williams is known for expertly showcasing character-driven
emotions within his films, as well as strong visual storytelling with the use
of old-school practical effects; and
Whereas, his
feature-film debut, "Mary's Lake," was locally filmed at Poinsett State Park
and produced on a modest budget. The film has been shown at many film
festivals, receiving favorable reviews and earning seven film-festival awards;
and
Whereas, Major Williams
is committed to giving back to his community. He continuously works with Sumter
Little Theatre, supporting them through efforts such as a screening he hosted of
"Mary's Lake," with all of the proceeds going to benefit the theatre; and
Whereas, through his
distinguished military service, award-winning filmmaking, entrepreneurship, and
investment in local talent, Major Williams continues to demonstrate an
exemplary commitment to service and to strengthening the arts and entertainment
community in Sumter and across South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the
South Carolina House of Representatives,
by this resolution, honor and congratulate Mark A. Williams, of Sumter County,
upon receiving the inaugural Swan Lake Sentinel Award at the 2026 Swan Lake
Independent Film Festival.
Be it further resolved
that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mark A. Williams.
