Williams, ofSumter County, upon receiving the inaugural Swan Lake Sentinel Award at the2026 Swan Lake Premiere Film Festival.Whereas, the members ofthe South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that onSeptember 11, 2026, Mark A. Williams will receive the inaugural Swan LakeSentinel Award in recognition of his exceptional military service and enduringcontributions to the art of filmmaking at the Swan Lake Premiere Film Festivalheld at the Sumter Little Theatre; andWhereas, Mark Williamsis a retired and disabled United States Army Major who honorably served hiscountry for twenty-three years as a combat engineer before bringing hisleadership and creativity to the Sumter community. He is the founder ofMAWilliams Films, an independent film production company. He is dedicated to expandingSumter's presence in the entertainment industry by creating opportunities forlocal actors, artists, and production talent; andWhereas, as afilmmaker, Major Williams is known for expertly showcasing character-drivenemotions within his films, as well as strong visual storytelling with the useof old-school practical effects; andWhereas, hisfeature-film debut, "Mary's Lake," was locally filmed at Poinsett State Parkand produced on a modest budget. The film has been shown at many filmfestivals, receiving favorable reviews and earning seven film-festival awards;andWhereas, Major Williamsis committed to giving back to his community. He continuously works with SumterLittle Theatre, supporting them through efforts such as a screening he hosted of"Mary's Lake," with all of the proceeds going to benefit the theatre; andWhereas, through hisdistinguished military service, award-winning filmmaking, entrepreneurship, andinvestment in local talent, Major Williams continues to demonstrate anexemplary commitment to service and to strengthening the arts and entertainmentcommunity in Sumter and across South Carolina. Now, therefore,Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:That the members of theSouth Carolina House of Representatives,by this resolution, honor and congratulate Mark A.
