Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom says the Division of Elections will certify the nominations of Treg Taylor for governor and Jose Tagle for state representative.
Dahlstrom announced the decision Friday, reversing her August 31 decision not to certify the two nominations.
The earlier decision followed an Alaska Public Offices Commission recommendation against certification under state regulations.
Since then, the Alaska Department of Law has conducted an initial review of candidates’ public official financial disclosure statements.
The department identified potential discrepancies between some filed statements and public records, but said the review is preliminary and does not determine that any specific candidate violated state law.
Dahlstrom says that additional information raised questions about the commission’s recommendations.
She says she will not withhold certification when she cannot apply the recommendations with confidence across the field of candidates.
The Division of Elections will now update its certified list of candidates, including the governor and lieutenant governor pairing.
