Arizona Republican lawmakers want the state’s water department to start providing weekly updates on developments related to the impending Colorado River cuts.

House Natural Resources, Energy and Water Committee Chairwoman Rep. Gail Griffin sent a letter to Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) Director Thomas Buschatzke on Friday requesting weekly meetings since a Colorado River Lower Basin agreement must be approved by the Legislature under state law. Reps. Chris Lopez and Neal Carter also signed the letter.

“Given our unique legislative role … we believe we are entitled to receive the same briefing you would deliver to the Governor’s office or the Governor herself, free from any filters or withholding of information,” the Republicans wrote in their letter to Buschatzke.

ADWR declined to comment on the letter.
