Grovetown police chief calls for portable pension for Georgia law enforcement officers

GROVETOWN, Ga. -- A Grovetown police chief is calling on Georgia lawmakers and the next governor to address what he says is a major problem with law enforcement retirement: Officers can change departments, but their retirement benefits do not always follow them.

Grovetown Police Chief Jamie Kitchens says Georgia needs a portable pension system that would allow law enforcement officers to continue building toward retirement as they move between participating agencies.
