BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - The farm belonging to Iowa Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate Derek Wulf is facing accusations of theft and fraud. A judge this week ordered the Black Hawk County farm be placed in receivership over questions of unpaid debts.
The Des Moines Register first reported the allegations.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn picked Wulf as his running mate in June. Court records show Wulf has faced at least five lawsuits this year tied to his farm, Shallow Creek Land and Livestock.
## Lawsuits center on unpaid debts
The lawsuits all center on unpaid debts or invoices.
In February, Four County Pig Placement claimed Wulf didn’t pay $182,000 for about 2,200 hogs.
Heartland Co-Op filed a lawsuit claiming Wulf owed $119,000 for hog feed.
All but one lawsuit have since been settled.
## Farm placed under management control
WCF Financial claims the Wulfs are in default on multiple loans. This week, a judge in that case put a management firm in control of Wulf’s farm business after he missed deadlines to refinance.
## Criminal investigation active
The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it has an active criminal investigation into Wulf but declined to comment further.
KCRG-TV9 reached out to Zach Lahn’s campaign for a statement but had not heard back.
