STATEHOUSE (Sept. 8, 2026) – State Reps. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) and Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer) are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.
Commons said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.
"Throughout this internship, students are working, networking and training alongside lawmakers, experts and legislative staff daily," Commons said. "You can’t get a more immersive experience than the one offered here at the Statehouse, and I encourage anyone interested to apply.
Culp said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"Our internship can kick-start your career in almost any industry," Culp said. "From networking to professional workshops, there are tons of skills and resources students can establish and utilize during the legislative session."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
This spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
