20 Kentucky counties to get FEMA assistance for June flooding

Flooding in Madison County took three lives, officials said. (Photo courtesy Richmond Police Department.) The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved public assistance for 20 Kentucky counties that dealt with flooding in June, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Wednesday.

Six Kentuckians died in the flooding, which saw eight inches of rain. The affected counties are getting $9 million in help from the federal government, according to U.S. Rep. Andy Barr’s office.

“This flooding event was devastating for our state, and Team Kentucky worked quickly to conduct damage assessments and request federal aid so that Kentuckians and communities affected would have the support needed to recover and rebuild,” Beshear said in a statement. “I am thankful that we have received the much-needed news that Public Assistance will be available for at least 20 counties.”

Henderson

Jackson

Madison

Meade

Mercer

Metcalfe

Ohio

Rockcastle

Spencer

Wayne
