Carencro oil & gas business plans to tap into SpaceX development

(Photo: NASA) An oil and gas industry manufacturer plans to invest $25.5 million to expand its Carencro facility and focus new production lines on the aerospace and defense sectors.

Coastal Machine & Supply Inc. announced Wednesday it will add 120,000 square feet to its existing facility to manufacture large, complex precision components, according to a news release from Louisiana Economic Development.

It’s estimated the investment will create 129 new permanent jobs in Acadiana. Coastal Machine & Supply will take part in the state’s High Impact Jobs grant program, which covers up to 22% of worker salaries. The company is also expected to receive an industrial tax exemption from local property taxes.

Founded in 2004, Coastal Machine & Supply serves the Gulf Coast energy industry. It started working in the space and defense sectors six years ago and now plans to capitalize on new demand from SpaceX , which recently unveiled plans to build a $100 billion rocket launch facility in Vermilion Parish.

“The talent in this region is undeniable, and SpaceX’s decision to invest historic capital in Louisiana tells you they see it, too,” Coastal Machine & Supply CEO Kody Guidry said in the state news release.

The company expects to begin its expansion this year with the first phase to be completed before August 2027.
