Tax credits for community development projects weighed by senators

Legislation that would create tax credits for eligible community revitalization projects will help spur local development and improve neighborhoods if passed, lawmakers told their peers on Wednesday.

The Senate Economic and Community Development Committee heard testimony on a proposal that would create a Community Development Tax Credit.

Sen. Sam Singh, D-East Lansing, said there used to be larger programs for community redevelopment, but they were axed by the Legislature in sweeping tax law changes made in 2011.
