The Salem-Keizer School Board is poised to finalize the factors district leaders must consider when deciding which elementary schools to shutter in 2027.

A Stanford study has shown that closing schools does not save as much money as people anticipate. It causes a lot of harm for many years to students and families. The board should pause any decisions for a solid year.
We had this many students in the nineties and many of these schools were still open. We had smaller class sizes too.
