SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - South Dakota Senator and Senate Majority Leader John Thune spoke with Dakota News Now on updates to the farm bill as the clock continues to tick before the September 30 deadline.
Thune shared that the Senate Agriculture Committee is still working on the new proposal after a party-line tie vote.
One of the key issues that remains is SNAP provisions, which Thune is hoping to sort out the details and work with the House to approve it.
“The things that are left are, they’re not, those are most of the safety net of that program. So crop insurance was covered last summer too. But there are pieces of it that farmers need certainty about. And they want to be able to have predictability. And of course, the E15 is a huge issue for corn growers,“ Sen. Thune explained.
Sen. Thune also spoke on the war with Iran and the escalating trade war with Canada.
