A house RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Chesnee High School
competitive cheer squad, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING
SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2024 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Chesnee
High competitive cheer squad of Spartanburg County captured the top honors at
the state competition held at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on Saturday,
November 23, 2024; and
Whereas, to the delight
of their faithful fans, the Chesnee Lady Eagles defeated a fine field of
competitors with a score of 278 besting their nearest opponent, Palmetto High
School by 16.5 points; and
Whereas, a field of
judges decides the cheer competition on each squad's performance and execution
of jumps, stunts, tumbling, and transitions and the degree of the program's difficulty
and choreography. Making the win all the sweeter, Chesnee won the Class AAA
championship as a smaller Class AA school; and
Whereas, twenty-six Lady
Eagles comprise the competitive cheer squad. Chesnee's Lilly Brown was named
the All Upstate Competitive Cheerleader of the Year by the Greenville News, and
teammate Miley Harris was named the AAA Cheerleader of the Year by the South
Carolina High School League (SCHSL). Abigail Fogle has signed with the
Limestone College dance team, and Rebecca Scruggs has signed with Presbyterian
College competitive cheer team; and
Whereas, this year
Chesnee's competitive cheer captured the program's fifth state championship,
most recently claiming the title in 2019. The Lady Eagles were runners-up in
2022 and 2023; and
Whereas, in a sport
that exacts precision, grace, and strength, Head Coach Allie Stubbs and her
skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic experience and
training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes life
principles that will endure beyond the mats; and
Whereas, the South
Carolina House of Representatives values the pride and recognition that the Chesnee
competitive cheerleaders have brought to their school and their community, and
the members look forward to following their continued achievements in the days
ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House
of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize
and honor the Chesnee High School competitive cheer squad, coaches, and school
officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2024
South Carolina Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this
resolution be presented to Principal Erik Gerstenacker and Coach Allie Stubbs.
