                    RESOLUTION No. _____
1     A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Indiana Beach
2 on their 100th anniversary.
3    Whereas, Founded as Ideal Beach in 1926 by Earl W.
4 Spackman, Indiana Beach has grown into a full regional
5 amusement park and vacation resort on Lake Shafer;
6     Whereas, The early years consisted of a bathhouse and
7 refreshment stand on the shores of Lake Shafer, then a dance
8 hall was added in 1930, which became a popular spot for big
9 bands, earning the nickname "The Riviera of the Midwest";
10      Whereas, From the 1950s through the 1990s, the park
11 shifted its focus towards amusement rides under Earl
12 Spackman's son, Tom Spackman, who renamed it Indiana
13 Beach and proceeded to add a large paddlewheel boat in 1961,
14 roller coasters in the 1970s, and a water park in the 1990s;
15     Whereas, The Spackman family sold the park in 2008, then
16 it was sold again in 2015, and just five years later it faced
17 permanent closure in February 2020;
18     Whereas, Chicago businessman Gene Staples purchased
19 the park in April 2020, and by the end of June 2020, the park
20 reopened; and
21     Whereas, Indiana Beach and Amusement Park and
22 Vacation Resort draws thousands of visitors each year, and is
23 a staple of White County, the greater Lafayette region, and the
24 State of Indiana: Therefore,

1Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly
2of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives
3concurring:
4      SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly
5 congratulates Indiana Beach on their 100th anniversary.
6      SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
7 to transmit copies of this Resolution to Indiana Beach.
