1     A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the 70th
2 anniversary of The Arc of Indiana and honoring its enduring
3 leadership and advocacy for Hoosiers with intellectual and
4 developmental disabilities.
5   Whereas, The Arc of Indiana was founded in 1956 by families
6 determined to secure dignity, opportunity, and inclusion for
7 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
8 (IDD) at a time when few supports or services were available;
9   Whereas, Over seven decades, The Arc of Indiana has helped
10 transform Indiana's system of supports, including advocacy that
11 led to the closure of state institutions and the expansion of
12 home and community-based services that allow individuals with
13 IDD to live, learn, work, and thrive in their communities;
14   Whereas, The Arc of Indiana has served as the state's leading
15 voice for individuals with IDD and their families, advancing
16 public policy, early intervention, inclusive education, and the
17 protection of civil and human rights;
18   Whereas, The Arc of Indiana has promoted independence and
19 economic opportunity through strong advocacy for competitive,
20 integrated employment and by creating innovative workforce
21 and transition initiatives;
22   Whereas, The Arc of Indiana has strengthened families and
23 communities through statewide programs, local chapter
24 partnerships, and a long-standing commitment to
25 self-advocacy;

1   Whereas, The Arc of Indiana has developed nationally
2 recognized initiatives that support individuals with IDD and
3 their families in planning for the future and achieving greater
4 independence, including The Arc Master Trust, which provides
5 a reliable vehicle for long-term financial planning, and Erskine
6 Green Training Institute, which offers hands-on vocational
7 training that leads to meaningful, competitive employment;
8   Whereas, Through collaboration with state leaders, its
9 chapters throughout Indiana, service providers, educators,
10 employers, self-advocates, and families, The Arc of Indiana has
11 improved the quality of life and expanded opportunities for all
12 Hoosiers; and
13   Whereas, The 70th anniversary of The Arc of Indiana offers
14 an occasion to honor its legacy of service, celebrate its impact,
15 and reaffirm Indiana's commitment to inclusion, equity, and
16 respect for all: Therefore,
17Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
18of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
19the Senate concurring:
20     SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly
21 congratulates The Arc of Indiana on its 70th anniversary and
22 commends the organization for its steadfast leadership,
23 innovation, and advocacy on behalf of individuals with
24 intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
25     SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly expresses
26 its sincere appreciation to The Arc of Indiana's members,
27 volunteers, staff, board leaders, chapters, self-advocates, and
28 families for their lasting contributions to communities across
29 the state.
30     SECTION 3. That the Indiana General Assembly encourages
31 all Hoosiers to recognize and support the mission of The Arc of
32 Indiana and to continue working together to build a more
33 inclusive and accessible Indiana for all.
34     SECTION 4. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
35 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
36 Representative Edward D. Clere for distribution to The Arc of
37 Indiana.
