         SENATE RESOLUTION ____
     MR. PRESIDENT:
     I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1      A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Roni Embry on her
2 retirement.
3    Whereas, Roni Embry was born in Fort Campbell,
4 Kentucky, and later moved to Indianapolis;
5    Whereas, Roni graduated from Southport High School in
6 1983, and was one of three freshmen on the 1980 Southport
7 High School state championship girls basketball team;
8     Whereas, Roni graduated from DePauw University with a
9 degree in Psychology and Elementary Education in 1987 and
10 she furthered her education and graduated with a M.A. in
11 School Administration from Butler’s Experiential Program for
12 Preparing School Principals (EPPSP);
13     Whereas, Roni is certified in Orton-Gillingham reading
14 instruction and trained in a variety of conflict resolution and
15 negotiation techniques. She taught second through fifth grade
16 and middle school special education in MSD Lawrence
17 Township from 1987 to 2009;

1    Whereas, Roni has written multiple grants to enhance
2 family outreach, engagement, and partnership with schools;
3    Whereas, Roni is a member of the Indianapolis
4 Propylaeum, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of
5 University Students, ISTA-Retired, and the Professional Staff
6 Organization;
7     Whereas, Roni has served on various boards such as, the
8 Indiana American Heart Association, MSD Lawrence Township
9 Foundation, American Association of University Women, Delta
10 Kappa Gamma Indiana, University Heights United Methodist
11 Childcare Center, Community Faith and Labor Coalition,
12 Indiana Political Action Committee for Education, and SAS
13 Retired Planning. Roni has also served in various local
14 association roles including President of the Lawrence
15 Education Association;
16     Whereas, Roni has held various roles in the Indiana State
17 Teachers Association (ISTA), including UniServ Director,
18 Public Education Advocacy Coordinator, Program
19 Coordinator for the ISTA Preservice Student Educators,
20 Educational Support Personnel, Legislative Action Teams,
21 I-PACE, and the nationally recognized ISTA-Retired;
22     Whereas, Roni advocated for significant legislation,
23 promoting measures to support youth with developmental
24 delays, supports for increased mental health and resiliency,
25 curriculum improvements for all students, increased funding for
26 public schools, and accountability measures; and
27     Whereas, Roni is recognized by the Indiana School Social
28 Work Association, Indianapolis Education Association, and
29 American Heart Association for coordinating multiple
30 community efforts and coalitions around issues of adequate
31 supports for families, schools, and mental health/resiliency
32 issues: Therefore,

1Be it resolved by the Senate of the
2General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
3      SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Roni Embry
4 on her retirement.
5      SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
6 to transmit two copies of this Resolution to Roni Embry.
