SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MR. PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Roni Embry on her
retirement.
Whereas, Roni Embry was born in Fort Campbell,
Kentucky, and later moved to Indianapolis;
Whereas, Roni graduated from Southport High School in
1983, and was one of three freshmen on the 1980 Southport
High School state championship girls basketball team;
Whereas, Roni graduated from DePauw University with a
degree in Psychology and Elementary Education in 1987 and
she furthered her education and graduated with a M.A. in
School Administration from Butler’s Experiential Program for
Preparing School Principals (EPPSP);
Whereas, Roni is certified in Orton-Gillingham reading
instruction and trained in a variety of conflict resolution and
negotiation techniques. She taught second through fifth grade
and middle school special education in MSD Lawrence
Township from 1987 to 2009;

Whereas, Roni has written multiple grants to enhance
family outreach, engagement, and partnership with schools;
Whereas, Roni is a member of the Indianapolis
Propylaeum, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of
University Students, ISTA-Retired, and the Professional Staff
Organization;
Whereas, Roni has served on various boards such as, the
Indiana American Heart Association, MSD Lawrence Township
Foundation, American Association of University Women, Delta
Kappa Gamma Indiana, University Heights United Methodist
Childcare Center, Community Faith and Labor Coalition,
Indiana Political Action Committee for Education, and SAS
Retired Planning. Roni has also served in various local
association roles including President of the Lawrence
Education Association;
Whereas, Roni has held various roles in the Indiana State
Teachers Association (ISTA), including UniServ Director,
Public Education Advocacy Coordinator, Program
Coordinator for the ISTA Preservice Student Educators,
Educational Support Personnel, Legislative Action Teams,
I-PACE, and the nationally recognized ISTA-Retired;
Whereas, Roni advocated for significant legislation,
promoting measures to support youth with developmental
delays, supports for increased mental health and resiliency,
curriculum improvements for all students, increased funding for
public schools, and accountability measures; and
Whereas, Roni is recognized by the Indiana School Social
Work Association, Indianapolis Education Association, and
American Heart Association for coordinating multiple
community efforts and coalitions around issues of adequate
supports for families, schools, and mental health/resiliency
issues: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the
General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Roni Embry
on her retirement.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed
to transmit two copies of this Resolution to Roni Embry.
