PRESIDENT:I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:1 A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Roni Embry on her2 retirement.3 Whereas, Roni Embry was born in Fort Campbell,4 Kentucky, and later moved to Indianapolis;5 Whereas, Roni graduated from Southport High School in6 1983, and was one of three freshmen on the 1980 Southport7 High School state championship girls basketball team;8 Whereas, Roni graduated from DePauw University with a9 degree in Psychology and Elementary Education in 1987 and10 she furthered her education and graduated with a M.A. in11 School Administration from Butler’s Experiential Program for12 Preparing School Principals (EPPSP);13 Whereas, Roni is certified in Orton-Gillingham reading14 instruction and trained in a variety of conflict resolution and15 negotiation techniques. She taught second through fifth grade16 and middle school special education in MSD Lawrence17 Township from 1987 to 2009;2026 DR 3862/DI ol21 Whereas, Roni has written multiple grants to enhance2 family outreach, engagement, and partnership with schools;3 Whereas, Roni is a member of the Indianapolis4 Propylaeum, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of5 University Students, ISTA-Retired, and the Professional Staff6 Organization;7 Whereas, Roni has served on various boards such as, the8 Indiana American Heart Association, MSD Lawrence Township9 Foundation, American Association of University Women, Delta10 Kappa Gamma Indiana, University Heights United Methodist11 Childcare Center, Community Faith and Labor Coalition,12 Indiana Political Action Committee for Education, and SAS13 Retired Planning. Roni has also served in various local14 association roles including President of the Lawrence15 Education Association;16 Whereas, Roni has held various roles in the Indiana State17 Teachers Association (ISTA), including UniServ Director,18 Public Education Advocacy Coordinator, Program19 Coordinator for the ISTA Preservice Student Educators,20 Educational Support Personnel, Legislative Action Teams,21 I-PACE, and the nationally recognized ISTA-Retired;22 Whereas, Roni advocated for significant legislation,23 promoting measures to support youth with developmental24 delays, supports for increased mental health and resiliency,25 curriculum improvements for all students, increased funding for26 public schools, and accountability measures; and27 Whereas, Roni is recognized by the Indiana School Social28 Work Association, Indianapolis Education Association, and29 American Heart Association for coordinating multiple30 community efforts and coalitions around issues of adequate31 supports for families, schools, and mental health/resiliency32 issues: Therefore,2026 DR 3862/DI ol31Be it resolved by the Senate of the2General Assembly of the State of Indiana:3 SECTION 1.
