  A RESOLUTION
  Honoring Laila Edwards as a 2026 Olympic gold
  medalist.
     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 136th General Assembly    1
of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to Laila Edwards on winning a gold    2
medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games as a member of     3
the Team USA women’s ice hockey team; and  4
     WHEREAS, A diligent and capable individual, Laila Edwards is        5
deserving of recognition for her outstanding accomplishments as a        6
member of the Team USA women’s ice hockey team. An exceptional  7
athlete, she helped her teammates throughout the Milano Cortina  8
Olympic Winter Games, where they defeated Team Canada by the score of    9
2-1 in overtime to win the gold medal, and her notable record of  10
personal achievement stands as a hallmark for others; and  11
     WHEREAS, Holding the special distinction of being the first Black   12
woman to win an Olympic gold medal with the Team USA women’s ice  13
hockey team, Laila Edwards has learned important lessons of  14
discipline, perseverance, hard work, and good sportsmanship that will    15
undoubtedly be of great benefit to her throughout her life. Through      16
her outstanding efforts, she has inspired countless people to excel in   17
various areas of endeavor, and she has set an example worthy of  18
emulation; and  19
     WHEREAS, In a society that seeks to teach the future leaders of     20
our state and nation the fundamentals of self-reliance and the rewards   21
of individual and group effort, athletic competition has become a        22
valuable educational tool. With sports contributing to the development   23
of role models for our youth, we are happy to commend such a fine        24
athlete as Laila Edwards; therefore be it  25

As Adopted by the Senate
     RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 136th General     26
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Laila  27
Edwards on her Olympic gold medal and extend best wishes for continued     28
success; and be it further  29
     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly  30
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Laila Edwards.  31
