4 HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF BETTY
5 LOUISE SIGLER.

7WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that we note the
8 death of Betty Louise Sigler of Mobile, Alabama, on March 1,
9 2026, at the age of 79; she was a dedicated teacher, loving
10 wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; and
11WHEREAS, she was born on January 31, 1947, to Dorothy
12 Phillips; she grew up in Mobile and graduated from Central
13 High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1964; and
14WHEREAS, Betty was an educator who devoted decades of
15 service as a substitute teacher and retired from the Mobile
16 County Public School System; she was regarded as a second
17 mother and grandmother to many students whose lives she
18 touched over the years; and
19WHEREAS, she was known for her fashion, signature
20 hairstyle, and affectionate smile; her presence was always
21 felt and her smile was forever welcoming; she touched many
22 generations, loving and caring for every child as if they
23 were her own; and
24WHEREAS, Betty enjoyed cooking and baking and found
25 great joy in watching others relish the dishes she prepared
26 with love, especially her celebrated Philadelphia cream
27 cheese cake; and
28WHEREAS, she lived a life of love, laughter, and

29 compassion, spreading joy and light wherever she went; her
30 presence will be missed by those who were fortunate enough
31 to know her, but her legacy lives on; and
32WHEREAS, Betty was preceded in death by her loving
33 husband, Roland Sigler, Jr.; mother, Dorothy Phllips; and
34 brother, Raymond Phillips; she is survived by her only
35 child, Courtney Pettway (Zechariah); grandchildren, Kierra
36 Brown, Jaylon Dukes, JaCorey Dukes, Courtland Thomas, and
37 Londyn Pettway; great-grandchildren, Kobie Brown and Kailani
38 Williams; sisters, Terry McCord (Samuel) and Geraldine
39 Phillips; brother, Johnny Phillips (Arlene); devoted
40 friends, Gloria Wilson, Karen Dawson, and Merceria Ludgood;
41 a loving bonus daughter, LaTonya Handy; and a host of
42 nieces, nephews, and cousins; now therefore,
43BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
44 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Betty Louise
45 Sigler is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is
46 offered in tribute to her life, along with heartfelt
47 sympathy to her family whose grief is shared by many.
