HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF BETTY
LOUISE SIGLER.
WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that we note the
death of Betty Louise Sigler of Mobile, Alabama, on March 1,
2026, at the age of 79; she was a dedicated teacher, loving
wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; and
WHEREAS, she was born on January 31, 1947, to Dorothy
Phillips; she grew up in Mobile and graduated from Central
High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1964; and
WHEREAS, Betty was an educator who devoted decades of
service as a substitute teacher and retired from the Mobile
County Public School System; she was regarded as a second
mother and grandmother to many students whose lives she
touched over the years; and
WHEREAS, she was known for her fashion, signature
hairstyle, and affectionate smile; her presence was always
felt and her smile was forever welcoming; she touched many
generations, loving and caring for every child as if they
were her own; and
WHEREAS, Betty enjoyed cooking and baking and found
great joy in watching others relish the dishes she prepared
with love, especially her celebrated Philadelphia cream
cheese cake; and
WHEREAS, she lived a life of love, laughter, and

compassion, spreading joy and light wherever she went; her
presence will be missed by those who were fortunate enough
to know her, but her legacy lives on; and
WHEREAS, Betty was preceded in death by her loving
husband, Roland Sigler, Jr.; mother, Dorothy Phllips; and
brother, Raymond Phillips; she is survived by her only
child, Courtney Pettway (Zechariah); grandchildren, Kierra
Brown, Jaylon Dukes, JaCorey Dukes, Courtland Thomas, and
Londyn Pettway; great-grandchildren, Kobie Brown and Kailani
Williams; sisters, Terry McCord (Samuel) and Geraldine
Phillips; brother, Johnny Phillips (Arlene); devoted
friends, Gloria Wilson, Karen Dawson, and Merceria Ludgood;
a loving bonus daughter, LaTonya Handy; and a host of
nieces, nephews, and cousins; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Betty Louise
Sigler is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is
offered in tribute to her life, along with heartfelt
sympathy to her family whose grief is shared by many.
