SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 206

  A RESOLUTION
To commend Courtney McCool Griffeth, Olympian, NCAA champion, and coach, upon
       being inducted into the 2026 class of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
       WHEREAS, Courtney McCool Griffeth, Olympian, collegiate gymnast, and coach,
will be honored, recognized, and inducted as a member of the 2026 class of the USA
Gymnastics Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 8, 2026, in conjunction with the 2026 Xfinity
U.S. Gymnastics Championships and National Congress and Trade Show in Phoenix,
Arizona; and
       WHEREAS, a 2004 Olympian and NCAA champion and coach, Courtney McCool
Griffeth, is being celebrated for her contributions to women's artistic gymnastics, which
includes a decorated career as an elite and collegiate athlete; and
       WHEREAS, following a strong performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Courtney
earned a coveted spot on Team USA to compete in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece,
earning a silver medal in the team competition; and
       WHEREAS, leading up to the Olympic games, Courtney earned high marks at the
2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, contributing to the
team's gold medal and placing second in the vault, and at the 2004 U.S. National
Championships, she claimed a silver medal on floor and earned a bronze medal on beam;
and
       WHEREAS, following her successful elite career, Courtney McCool Griffeth entered
the world of collegiate gymnastics, first as an athlete competing as a GymDog for the
University of Georgia from 2007 to 2010 and later as a coach; and
       WHEREAS, while competing for the University of Georgia, she was a four-time
NCAA champion, earning the 2008 NCAA floor exercise title and contributing to three
straight NCAA national championship teams; and

       WHEREAS, after hanging up her grips, Courtney, fueled by her love and passion for
gymnastics, moved into the coaching arena, holding positions at Texas Woman's University,
the University of Arkansas, and the University of Utah where she contributed to the
advancement and success of each program; and
       WHEREAS, in 2021, Courtney began her coaching tenure at Louisiana State
University, primarily leading the beam and floor squads, and was instrumental in the climb
to LSU's historic 2024 NCAA women's gymnastics national championship; and
       WHEREAS, through her achievements as an Olympian, NCAA champion, and
respected and successful collegiate coach, Courtney McCool Griffeth has distinguished
herself as one of the nation's most accomplished figures in the sport of gymnastics and her
induction in the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame class of 2026 stands as a fitting tribute to her
extraordinary legacy and lasting contributions to gymnastics.
       THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Courtney McCool Griffeth upon being inducted into the 2026 class
of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and does hereby express sincere wishes for continued
success and prosperity.
       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Courtney McCool Griffeth.
